http://www.usabilitypost.com/ Here’s an interesting UI concept that Quentin from TOKI WOKI sent me: fluid corners. Go ahead and view the demo here . I think the name isn’t quite right at communicating the idea behind the concept — something like elastic toolbars would probably describe it better.

UsableMarkets — markets, design, usability, research

I love hearing about new online markets and trying to understand them better. So when a friend told me about appbackr I was excited. It’s a seemingly simple idea: match people who want to invest in cool new apps for iOS with developers of those apps. But at appbackr this seemingly simple idea gets muddied quickly. One might imagine that this operates a bit like the stock market: you give some money to the developer and therefore earn the right to capture a certain percent of all future profits that app earns. http://www.usablemarkets.com/

This blog has always been about optimism, creating better user experiences, helping users spend more time in flow, and learning. There are 405 posts here. More importantly, there are nearly 10,000 comments from y'all that add so much more to the topics, and from which myself and others have learned a great deal. I don't want the last thing people remember about this blog to be The Bad Things. So, I've moved my original "threats" post--something many people find very difficult to look at-- to a different web page -- rather than keeping it as a post here.

Brain Sparks

We’re seeing that the move to designing for mobile can be a real challenge for many UX Professionals. Once they get past the initial thinking that it’s just another screen size, they are hit with all the different dimensions of what it takes to create a great mobile experience. That can seem overwhelming at first. Some of those challenges come up pretty fast. Often, the first one a UX Pro encounters is the realization that you can’t just shrink down the desktop experience and expect it to work. Mobile brings out a need to curate the experience in a way that we didn’t need to do with our desktop interfaces.

“Trying to simultaneously record all of that information in only handwritten notes, without introducing any delays in the sessions, would be an extreme challenge.” “It’s like drinking from a fire hose with a straw, with another smaller straw inside it.” That’s how a colleague who was not allowed to record participants in user research sessions described doing contextual inquiries for a very complex financial application. http://uxmatters.com/
