Something about the name sounds so romantic to me (maybe because it’s French?) , which is odd considering this is really quite an easy, homestyle dessert. What is a clafoutis, you ask? Bestofcakes: sweets <3. Brownies. Cinnamon Toast Rolls. The USDA released its new food pyramid the other day (which is actually a plate now instead of a pyramid), and I am sorely disappointed to report that cinnamon rolls did not appear anywhere on that plate.
I think by now most of us know what should be on our dinner plate in terms of healthy, well-rounded nutrient-laden meals, but it is my considered opinion that our breakfast plate should include cinnamon rolls now and then. And not just any cinnamon roll, mind you, but how ‘bout a homemade cinnamon roll hybrid that is a cross between a cinnamon roll and cinnamon toast, is super easy to make and gosh darn delicious. In honor of their ancestry, I call these little gems cinnamon toast rolls, and here’s all you need to make them… Yep. That’s it… some soft white bread, some butter and some cinnamon sugar. Trim the crusts off of the bread Roll the bread really flat Brush both sides of the bread with butter. Cinnamon Sugar Pull-Apart Bread. Nutella Mug Cake. I have been experimenting with different mug cakes every since I heard about them about a year ago.
None of them have been winners. They were either too chewy, too dry, or not sweet enough. Well, I continued experimenting, and thought why not add some decadent Nutella into the mix. I modified the classic mug cake recipe, added Nutella, and a little more milk and oil than I had been using before. Chocolate Lava Cake with Salted Caramel. The first time I made this it came out looking more like chocolate molten lava pudding. Of course there’s nothing wrong with pudding, except if you have 8 guests that have paid to eat at your supper club and what is on their plates looks like a big pile of brown mush. Then it’s not such a good thing. I definitely had a ‘what the hell do I do now’ moment when I pulled the ramekin off the cake and the whole thing oozed all over the plate except for a thin crispy crust.
For a moment I thought I would simply call it molten lava pudding.
