CRISTIAN ZUZUNAGA. We would like to start the workshop by presenting ourselves: our values, beliefs and ethos and what brought us together to collaborate in the first place. We share the same values and passion for quality, we are forward thinking: we embrace the past from the present towards the future while placing the human being at the core of what we do. The central figure of the workshop will be the loom and the act of weaving. We would like to use it as a tool to travel through time and in time. Working as a team, we will construct a wooden loom* which will allow us to learn the basic principles and the process of weaving.

We would like to use the loom as a narrative and as an excuse to travel through Europe's History and background. The hand operated loom serves as the perfect link to travel through time. For centuries and up until the Industrial Revolution looms were hand operated, placing us humans at the core of production. There is something magic about handmade products. Helena Bukowska - Following the Logic of the Technique | Artist. Helena Bukowska, photo: from the Archive of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw As a weaver specialising artistic textiles, designed kilims, tapestries, harness and jacquard fabrics, embroidered linen tapestries, printed fabrics, and clothing, she was among the most recognised artists in her field.

She was honoured by the Ministry of Religious Confessions and Public Enlightenment, and her tapestries were hung on the walls of the conference room and Ministry hall, as well as the conference hall of the Silesian Parliament in Katowice. The jacquards designed in those times for public interiors, spun from the highest-grade linen, wool, and silk yarns, were thought to emphasise these rooms'representative, and even state-building role.

Helena Bukowska spent her childhood in Siberia, where her father, an architectural engineer, was working on building a railroad. He became a widower early, and reared his two children on his own. The first fabrics Bukowska designed were kilims. Notes: (1) E. Stripe Pattern Generator Tool. Home Page | www.habutextiles.com. _nui project*nuiプロジェクト(ヌイ) Adire African Textiles. Sustainable fashion, also called eco fashion, is a part of the growing design philosophy and trend of sustainability, the goal of which is to create a system which can be supported indefinitely in terms of environmentalism and social responsibility.

Origin and purpose[edit] Materials[edit] There are many factors when considering the sustainability of a material. The renewability and source of a fiber, the process of how a raw fiber is turned into a textile, the working conditions of the people producing the materials, and the material's total carbon footprint. Natural fibers[edit] Natural Fibers are fibers which are found in nature and are not petroleum-based.

Cellulose[edit] Protein[edit] Wool, Silk, Angora, Camel, Alpaca, Llama, Vicuna, Cashmere, Mohair Manufactured[edit] from natural materials: Lyocell, Polylactic acid or PLA (Corn Polymer) Recycled fibers[edit] Designers[edit] "The Golden Book Gown" made of recycled book pages. Fabrics | Care of Materials | Definitions | Resources When moving to an environmentally-friendly lifestyle, one of the key elements to consider is fashion.

Did you know that growing cotton uses 22.5 percent of all the insecticides used globally? Growing enough cotton for one t-shirt requires 257 gallons of water. On top of that, bleaching and then dyeing the resulting fabric creates toxins that flow into our ecosystem. Fabrics There are a variety of materials considered "environmentally-friendly" for a variety of reasons. The second factor is the ecological footprint of the resource - how much land (usually measured in acres) it takes to bring one of the individuals (plants or animals) to full growth and support it. The third thing to consider in determining the eco-friendliness of a particular product is how many chemicals it requires to grow/process it to make it ready for market. Fabrics not currently in this list include: linen, silk, kenaf, and switchgrass, but they are forthcoming. Bacteria Gram negativa. Canal, Moraine and Gravel are three collections of 3D knitted and stretch upholstery fabric launched by the Bouroullec brothers for Kvadrat, the danish textile manufacturer. Canal, Moraine y Gravel son tres colecciones de tapicería elástica confeccionada en 3D, presentada por los hermanos Bouroullec para Kvadrat, la fabricante textil danesa. Constructed using a double jersey knit, the collections reveal new surfaces of slightly quilted fabric. Realizados con punto doble de jersey, las colecciones revelan nuevas superficies de tela ligeramente acolchadas.

“At the very beginning of our research there was a fascination for the structural traits of textiles that, observed under a magnifying glass, can be interpreted like a lattice of threads – building marvellous architectures,” said the designers. The fabrics combine the flexibility and firmness necessary to upholster a wide variety of shapes with the possibility of less points of stitching. Cheap and cheery, the material has graced all kinds of restaurants and bars, though over time it could be most commonly found in corporate eateries like McDonalds and Baskin Robbins.

Barbara Radice notes that “Plastic laminates today are still a metaphor for vulgarity, poverty, and bad taste.” Memphis sought to question this, bringing low-class laminates into high-class interior collectibles, and, in the process, paving the way for a reception in which their products were recognized as simultaneously avant-garde and ugly. The strong graphic patterns Memphis developed hardly helped people feel more at ease. The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s (SAIC) Department of Fiber and Material Studies provides you with an interdisciplinary study of fiber, materials, and processes that incorporate art-making approaches including: textile construction, sculpture, installation, action, and craft. Studio Practice Courses emphasize the production of textiles and fiber arts within a contemporary art context and supported by current theoretical discourse. Students learn a vast range of textile construction, surface techniques, and processes, including: weaving, print, dye, stitch, soft sculpture, felting, knitting, crochet, spinning, collage, and embellishment.

Our studios feature analog and digital equipment, and students engage in thinking and working with hand processes while incorporating digital technologies and computer-assisted approaches to making. Index of /patterns/weaving/books. Moopy & me. As those of you who have read my blog a few times may know ... I love picture books and include them in so much of what we do with the children in the studio. Children can relate to the artworks within and being familiar with the stories & illustrations makes introducing new art concepts super easy. They are also just plain old fun & relaxing! These photos are almost a year old ... from Term 3 last year when we focused on illustration.. I came across them tonight whilst doing a bit of thinking about what fun projects we can embark on next term when we focus on illustration and picture books again... and thought they were too pretty not to share (makes a great art lesson for any Art/School teachers out there!)

You can see that the children have used a soft dark pencil to sketch from life first (onto quality watercolour paper), spending time to really look into my little plant still life. Period Clothing Patterns and Cutting Diagrams IMPORTANT: Notes On Using Our Patterns These patterns are reproduced from original period patterns and from cutting diagrams found in English, French and American publications of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Those copied from full-sized patterns were scanned in at 1/2, 1/4 or 1/8 of the original size as indicated on each piece. They can be printed out and enlarged on a photocopier, projector, digitally, or by hand. The scale in inches is also given on each piece, in case they do not print out true to size. Patterns copied from cutting diagrams have been scanned in at 1 to 1½ times original size and are not to scale.

We also include period cutting layouts and diagrams which are not always to scale. All of these patterns come in one size only: that of the original. Please click on a title or scroll down the page to view our selection. Marimekko.
