Engineering Construction Set

Our concept is to empower you (and your kid) to more easily build your own custom designed machines to perform engineering tasks that you define. Commercial versions of these kits sell in toy stores for $20. Here on thingiverse we are giving away our plans, instructions and assembly diagrams for free. Our inventors have already started to add custom new parts you can print. We believe in this vision - and we're thrilled to share these ideas with the thingiverse community. ThinkFun offers three Construction Sets: Maker Studio is built on a dream of two engineer dads who recognized that many curious kids and families need an on-ramp to jump into the Maker movement. Our mission at ThinkFun is to help you develop thinking skills as you play.

Hail, and well met! 1. Topple your opponent’s flags to win. 2. Players must agree on the models used in the battle. 3. Keep it friendly. 4. Seej is an Open Source tabletop wargame designed to advance the state of 3D printing through competition and player-directed evolution. The rules to Seej are open source and infinitely expandable. At a minimum, you’ll need to download and print the Seej 2013 starter set.

Print two sets, find an opponent, and have fun storming the castle! There’s a wide assortment of additional Seej engines, bloxen, and accessories in The Forge. Drooloop Flowers - Customizable experiment w/looping. Featured on the Ultimaker blog!

Drooloop Flowers - Customizable experiment w/looping

These are really fun to design and print. Each print job is fun since there's a slight element of randomness. The randomness is because we are deliberately "printing in the air" to create the "drooloops" (droop+loop) that make these flowers look so amazing. I have uploaded both openscad design file AND the gcode files for ten different flower shapes that you can download and print right away. I have used a naming system so you should be able to see images of the design that goes with the gcode.

For those who love to tinker and want to make their own unique flowers, I have also uploaded all my source files, detailed instructions, and a video tutorial on how I modify the gcode by hand to obtain a more symmetrical flower shape. Extreme Redesign, 3D Printing & Product Design Competition

Middle school, high school and college-level students worldwide: Send us your best design in the form of an STL file, and tell us why your design improves on the existing engineering solution or why it’s a great original or redesigned work of art or architecture. The winning entries will be creative, mechanically sound and realistically achievable. Since the contest’s inception 11 years ago, Stratasys has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to innovative students and their instructors. See past winners. With this simple clip you keep your filament organised while not in use.

Filament Clip

Description Use this clip to store your filament spool and prevent it from unwinding itself. Instead of clipping the filament the the spool itself, this clip is attached to the filament itself. Therefore it can be used with any kind of spool. The clip is originally designed for filament up to 3mm and is very easy to use. Depending upon the exact diameter the clip will easily slide over the end of the filament (see picture with the blue filament) or it can be put on the end of the filament as a kind of 'cap' (see picture with the yellow & red filament)This clip can also be used for other diameters filament, simply scale the clip in Cura or in the other slicing software you are using OR...

Intro to DIY filament extrusion. Nowadays one of the biggest drawbacks in 3D printing is the relative high cost of filament, i.e. the 3D printer (thermo-)plastic, the “consumable” for your 3D printer.

Prices for 3D printers have been continuously dropping, but filament prices did not really follow the same path. Agreed, filament availability is far better than 2 or 3 years ago, as are color choices. Filament Maker – Filabot. DIY PVC Filament Spool Stand. The first step in constructing the filament spool stand is to cut the PVC pipe as follows: Cut one 5 1/2" length of PVC pipe as shown in the first photo.

This part will be used to hold the spool. Cut two 3 7/8" lengths of PVC pipe as shown in the second photo. These parts are the arms that will support the spool. Cut four 3" lengths of PVC pipe as shown in the third photo. These parts are used in the feet of the stand. This design is for 3.5" wide, 6.5" diameter spools with at least 1.25" diameter holes.
