Une fois le projet lancé, me confronter « au vrai ciel des étoiles » a été une épreuve d'endurance, pleine d'imprévus, plus difficile que je l'avais imaginée. D'abord, lors de la toute première nuit d'observation, ce qui m'a frappé, c'est l'ampleur de la tâche. Il fallait, bien sûr, photographier tout ce que je voyais là-haut, partout, à l'ouest, à l'est, au nord, au sud, au zénith, mais pas seulement... Je savais qu'il faudrait ensuite tout recommencer, dans l'autre hémisphère, celui, en quelque sorte, que j'avais sous les pieds, au nadir... Pendant un moment, pris de vertige, je me suis demandé ce que je faisais là... La prise de vue s'est déroulée « à l'ancienne » : un peu comme un marin naviguant à vue, je me suis repéré dans le ciel en cabotant d'étoile en étoile.
Le premier soir, j'ai pointé l'appareil photo sur l'étincelante étoile Canopus, qui venait de culminer au sud et s'apprêtait à décliner vers l'ouest. Hubble Gallery. About this photo This is a 150-gigapixel image shot from the top of the Tokyo Tower. It was shot in September 2012 with the kind assistance from the management of the Tokyo Tower.
The trip to Tokyo was sponsored by Fujitsu Technology Solutions, and this panorama was rendered and edited on a Fujitsu Celsius R920 workstation. This image was shot with a Canon 7D digital SLR camera, with a 400mm telephoto lens. The camera was mounted on a special "gigapixel robot" called the Clauss Rodeon. This programmable robot allowed the camera to move and shoot very quickly, so that it was possible to shoot more than one photo every second. The image was shot from three different locations around the top of the tower.
