Creative instruction is important to maximizing learning for students and enjoying our classroom time as educators. What happens when we teach from a slightly different angle–when we layer our teaching with elements of social and emotional learning, empathy, creativity, analysis, and the arts, and consciously access the different learning styles?

Can we use our content areas as a vehicles to teach skills and add in the other areas? If we can, we create well-rounded students who want to learn. Teaching Primary Research. 10 Physical Education Resources For Schools. For some reason, I was back in my elementary school. I was student teaching in a middle school, so being in an elementary environment gave me an entirely different lens with which to view learning. I watched the little groups of miniature people sitting at small desks listening to their teachers, smiling, buzzing around at times like little bees–so much energy. “Keep it up!” I wanted to say, “I don’t want to see you sleeping on a desk by middle school!” It seems that energy levels decrease by middle and high school. Proper instruction in athletics and physical education can help. I ran into my physical education teacher on this visit. Much has been said and written about the benefits and advantages of the Flipped Classroom throughout the year, so during the last three weeks of school I decided to experiment with this model of instruction and I flipped my math classroom. Using Explain Everything on my iPad, I created a series of videos that my students watched prior to coming to school. In the classroom I had the opportunity to take advantage of the extra instructional time, as well as their excitement about sharing the knowledge they gained by watching the videos I created, and tried to engage my students in high order mathematical tasks.

Although the results were highly encouraging and made me a fervent proponent of the Flipped Classroom, there are four things that I think every classroom teacher should know before they start using the Flipped Classroom model. Within a few minutes of signing up on the TenMarks website, a teacher can create accounts for classes of students (who are only required to use their first name).

Based on the selected class grade level, TenMarks automatically generates a list of concepts and exercises that map to state and Common Core standards. Each concept is called an “album,” (“domain” in Common Core lingo) and within each album are “tracks,” which are problem sets related to that subject (“standards”). Teachers can create different “playlists” (compilations of albums and tracks) for students based on their progress. Students receive ID and password to log in to their class account, where they see their assigned album.

As students work through the tracks (which each consist of 10 multiple-choice questions), they can use three hints unique to that problem, as well as three- to five-minute videos aimed at reinforcing their understanding of concepts.
