In God we trust, maybe, but not each other

Americans don't trust each other anymore. We're not talking about the loss of faith in big institutions such as the government, the church or Wall Street, which fluctuates with events. For four decades, a gut-level ingredient of democracy - trust in the other fellow - has been quietly draining away. These days, only one-third of Americans say most people can be trusted. Half felt that way in 1972, when the General Social Survey first asked the question. Dan Morain: Mental health system a safety net in name only - Dan Morain. Writing Contest: EXPOSE Agenda 21

By utilizing universal concerns such as the environment and the economy, this United Nations program has co-opted legitimate activism to create a many-tentacled beast that aims to get it hooks into local communities across the globe . . . by stealth. At its heart, Agenda 21 is a communitarian system -- essentially collectivism -- where the very nature of the human desire to connect and cooperate with one another is distorted to become a system of regulations, control mechanisms, dependence and servitude, and a revamp of the global economy, based on natural, human, and social capital. Humanity itself becomes the source of all problems instead of the source of all solutions and progress.

This writing contest seeks to address the many facets of Agenda 21. Please see the specific guidelines for submissions below: The Court, the Corporate Coup, and the Call to Struggle. Our democracy was under siege even before the Supreme Court’s ruling Tuesday on the Voting Rights Act.

The Court, the Corporate Coup, and the Call to Struggle

This decision caps the Court’s clean sweep on behalf of the United States Chamber of Commerce and is part of a concerted effort to seize democracy on behalf of moneyed interests. How The American University was Killed, in Five Easy Steps. A few years back, Paul E.

The myth of the eight-hour sleep

A growing body of evidence from both science and history suggests that the eight-hour sleep may be unnatural. In the early 1990s, psychiatrist Thomas Wehr conducted an experiment in which a group of people were plunged into darkness for 14 hours every day for a month. It took some time for their sleep to regulate but by the fourth week the subjects had settled into a very distinct sleeping pattern. They slept first for four hours, then woke for one or two hours before falling into a second four-hour sleep. Though sleep scientists were impressed by the study, among the general public the idea that we must sleep for eight consecutive hours persists. In 2001, historian Roger Ekirch of Virginia Tech published a seminal paper, drawn from 16 years of research, revealing a wealth of historical evidence that humans used to sleep in two distinct chunks.

Nicola Tesla, Albert Einstein and Swami Vivekananda. The Vedas are a collection of writings consisting of hymns, prayers, myths, historical accounting, dissertations on science, and the nature of reality, which date back at least 5,000 years.

The nature of matter, antimatter, and the make up of atomic structure are described in the Vedas. The language of the Vedas is known as Sanskrit. The origin of Sanskrit is not fully understood. Western scholars suggest that it was brought into the Himalayas and thence south into India by the southward migrations of the Aryan culture. Paramahansa Yogananda and other historians however do not subscribe to that theory, pointing out that there is no evidence within India to substantiate such claims. [2] There are words in Sanskrit that describe concepts totally foreign to the western mind.

Zorba the Greek Unmasked: Chorba the Macedonian, by Alex K. Gigeroff. Originally published September, 1990 Printable Version To make a good soup you have to collect the ingredients and cook it very slowly. My Dedo Naumche was born in Macedonia way back about 1870. I never met him but I've heard lots about him. Sometimes I think about him. In my mind's eye, I can see him when he had finished his soup that he had eaten with home made bread. The soup he liked best was a "CHORBA".

It's easy enough to make: Wash the tripe and boil it then simmer it with salt, garlic and black pepper; add a cup of hot broth spoonful by spoonful into a bowl of two beaten eggs, some lemon juice and do this slowly so the mix doesn't curdle; add a cup of light cream into the mix and then pour the whole thing back into the pot stirring all the while. Other countries might have different names for it. But enough about soup. People sometimes change their names, especially when their original names are not socially or politically acceptable.
