Musique. Musica y sociedad. Logic. The hidden risk in Blackphone’s “secure” communications. Messaging, cheap phones, and the tensions between the telecom industry and web companies have been the overriding themes at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), an annual telecom-industry gathering in Barcelona this week. But another current has been flowing underneath the surface: security and privacy. Also at the MWC this week, a company called SPG Technologies launched the Blackphone, which according to the press release is “the world’s first smartphone which places privacy and control directly in the hands of its users.” This it does. The phone uses a version of Android software without any Google apps or services. Blackphone comes unlocked and features several pre-installed privacy tools, all of which are fully enabled for at least two years of usage.

Formative assessment with hexagons. Formative assessment is something I’ve been putting a lot more emphasis on over the past few years. I’m so sick of just relying of end-of-topic exams to gauge what students have learnt. I want my students to continuously question how they are going and make changes to their learning accordingly. This is one of the reasons that my faculty has embarked on a Structured Observed Learning Outcomes (SOLO) journey this year. One of the ways that many teachers using SOLO use to assess student learning is with SOLO hexagons.
SOLO hexagons involves the major concepts or ideas from a topic to be placed individually onto hexagons. Here’s a video showing one way of using the SOLO hexagons in a UK science class. Here’s an explanation of how to use SOLO hexagons from the SOLO guru, Pam Hooke. I changed the hexagon activity slightly to suit the needs of my students.

Può darsi che le sacrifichino qualche ora più del necessario, può darsi che si riducano talvolta in quello stato di semi-incoscienza nel quale il telespettatore abituale, bambino e adulto, casca dopo qualche tempo, e di cui è sintomo la totale passività con cui accetta dal teleschermo, senza scegliere e senza reagire, qualsiasi programma. L’adulto ha spesso la tentazione (e raramente vi resiste) di lodare “i suoi tempi”, specie quelli di quand’era bambino, che la memoria gli dipinge di vivaci colori e gli presenta come una stagione ideale.

Depende de lo bien que dibujes el objeto o concepto propuesto subirás de nivel y obtendrás más colores para tus futuras creaciones y, además, podremos elegir jugar en otros idiomas para aprender palabras clave y dibujarlas. El juego puede practicarse con adultos pero también con niños a partir de 5 años, que pueden pintar o adivinar lo que estamos pintando nosotros.
