How to Recover a Corrupt Excel File

Edit Edited by Paul Pruitt, Tom Viren, Ben Rubenstein, Nicole Willson and 17 others There are many ways to work around Excel file corruptions. To recover a corrupt Excel file, try one of the methods below.
Microsoft Office Excel 2003 Microsoft Excel 2002 Microsoft Excel provides automatic recovery for a corrupted file by attempting to reopen and simultaneously repair the file. Excel identifies what it changed while repairing the file. If the repair fails, Excel again tries to open the file but instead of attempting a repair, Excel extracts cell values and formulas leaving only the data. Under some circumstances, however, Excel won't automatically go into recovery mode, so users may find it necessary to recover file data manually.

General Computer Science II - 64-bit processor - Architecture

Introduction: To get a first idea, how the 64-bit architecture works and also how it differs significantly from a 32-bit implementation it is useful to consider one definition first: "A 64-bit processor is a microprocessor with a word size of 64 bits , a requirement for memory and data intensive applications such as computer-aided design (CAD) applications, database management systems, technical and scientific applications, and high-performance servers. 64-bit computer architecture provides higher performance than 32-bit architecture by handling twice as many bits of information in the same clock cycle ." ( search390.com ) The most important parts, which define a 64-bit architecture are boldfaced and give a rough idea that one can now process not only 2^32 = 4294967296 basic units of information, but 2^64 = 18446744073709551616 units. The numbers are quite impressive and show that the architecture level has to be updated accordingly. http://www.faculty.iu-bremen.de/birk/lectures/PC101-2003/05cpu64/architecture.htm
