Part V: Gamification in Action This is the fourth part of an ongoing series on the role of gamification in modern education by Andrew Proto. If you missed the previous articles, catch up with “ Part I: the Unique Obstacles Teachers Face “, “ Part II:Technology’s Role in a Gamified Classroom “, “ Part III: The Importance of Motivation “, and “ Part IV: Looking at Busy Work “ I recently had the opportunity to meet two teachers who had put together an amazing lesson for their class. While neither had heard the term “Gamification” before they’ve actively implemented many of the tools we’ve discussed. The results are nothing less then remarkable.

Conferences - DMI 2012 International Research Conference - Leading innovation through design
The Design Management Institute is pleased to announce that it is soliciting submissions for an academic conference to be held August 8-9, 2012 in Boston, Massachusetts. Our goal is to create an inclusive conversation among academics from a variety of disciplines including business (organizational behavior, strategy, marketing, and operations) and design management (design strategy, product design, brand identity, communications, interactive design, user experience, architecture, and environmental design) to examine the ways in which design thinking can inform innovation currently and in the future. We aim to lay the groundwork to build a scholarly community and advance the state of the art in design management research, theory, and practice, and produce a significant contribution to the field through the paper presentations, conference proceedings and producing a special issue of the Design Management Journal .No longer competing in an either-or-world, design leaders are learning to break through classic trade-offs for ultimate success in getting the best products, services and experiences to market. Today, they find success by tapping into a diversity of tools, techniques and methods to move more adaptively than ever. Fast versus Slow.
Conferences - BALANCING EXTREMES: The tensions in design
Design leads solutions to an inclusive, integrated and inspiring process that transforms experiences for a better life, through a laser focus on the user. From the large to the small, visible to the invisible, group to the individual, COLLECTIVE DESIGN will surface and reveal the innermost workings in infrastructure, policy, planning, research, organization, innovation and management that occur behind the scenes and on the front lines of design and business. What is the role of design leadership in this new world of collective design? Who drives policy? What systems are in place to serve communities? How are multi-disciplinary, open source processes engaging in collaborative design?
