Collage Ideas and How to Make A Collage. 1: If this is your first time I would use a page of card stock the same size as a piece of copy paper.
Later on when you are confident you can upsize to canvas’s or whatever you like. 2: Decide what colours you want to use for a start. I usually chose 3-4 colours as the main features. 3: Gather all your materials together and wear some old clothes. 4: The sorts of materials you need are PVA white glue, water it down 1 part glue to 1/8th Part water. 5: Start by ripping the pictures out and instead of cutting them rip them all the way around so they have lovely uneven edges. 6: I start by coating my surface with acrylic paints or Lumiere Halo paints. 7: Start ripping out small pieces of decorated papers and gluing them on the card with the pva glue. 8: Glue on your pictures and cover them with glue also. 9: Add in little pieces of fabric. 10: Now start gluing down another layer over the top. 12: Add more layers building up till you are happy with it. 14: Let everything dry.

Collage sheets. BOOK SCULPTURE. Altered books « the starbook. For those of you who have been following, you will know that I have been participating in an Altered Books Round Robin with my chapter of the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild since last fall.
As this was a collaborative long-term project that spoke to the very essence of who I am as an artist, I have been blogging about the month’s theme and creative process to respond to it. For those not familiar with a round robin of this nature, here are the rules: Each book artist in the group begins altering a hard cover book of at least 50 pages on a theme of their choice. The original artist creates one two-page spread of original artwork within the book. They then send their altered book with instructions to the next person on the list, who will create their own two-page spread in the book, and then send it on to the next person on the list, and so on until each altered book has travelled around the group and returned to its home. About the Altered Books: I attended an art event in Portland called Mississippi May in early 2007, and it featured the work of local emerging artists.
My favorite works in the show were the magical illustrations of Timothy Karpinski, painted onto the pages of old books. I loved this idea because I’d never seen books used as a canvas before, and the illustrations created their own story against the backdrop of the page. I was inspired and decided to apply the idea using photos, as my work at the time was primarily photography. This led to experimentation using inkjet image transfer paper to print my photographs within the pages of books.
