Andrzej Sekula on filmmaking and the Nikon D800 | Nikon Cinema. We spoke with Andrzej Sekula, director of photography for the short film Through the Lens, about his experience using the D800 to shoot the film.
Sekula has over two dozen feature films to his lensing credit and is a lifelong Nikon devotee. He has a self proclaimed “love affair with Nikon,” wishing he could have used all of his NIKKOR lenses for the shoot. Ultimately, lens choice came down to those lenses that helped convey the story. Through the Lens was created to show how well the D800 fits into a Hollywood workflow. Watch the interview of Andrzej Sekula to learn just how well the camera and NIKKOR lenses performed.
Through the Lens is the story of a young boy with impaired vision who hopes that his vision will be restored one day. In the interim, he’s capturing the world around him in photographs, so he will be able to see just what he missed. Michael Raffin's work is a direct reflection of his own industry image: professional, on point, and fabulous. His talent brings out the best in his subjects whether they are commercial buildings, interiors, or human models. His imagination knows no bounds and he produces top notch results each and every time. I have used Raffin's talents on many projects over the course of the 10 years I have met him and have yet to be disappointed.
From casual settings to upscale vignettes to even my personal and professional head shots, the reactions I receive from clients with these finished projects where his images were used never ceases to please me. I highly recommend MARS Photography and Michael Raffin for any project you may require an excellent and professional photographer.See MoreRead Less. Scenic. Ronnie Sullivan. At the beginning of this series I captured an image of an older man who was alone in his safe home with all the comforts he had collected around him. I knew I had a powerful image. I have since had the priviledge to get to know several people in simular situations which I began to use as my subjects. I set out to show a glimps of their lives, the way they live, and still maintain their integrity. Though they have few resources and many live alone, they all have a dignity that only comes from a lifetime of experience.
These people have lived long full lives and have great stories to tell. Their surroundings are unkempt and they have accepted that. Energy spent on keeping house is less important when daily survival is their goal. This series of images shows a callas reality of a sometimes complicated lifestyle but more importantly it depicts a reservoir of valuable life experience. Ronnie Sullivan. I grew up in a home in which guns were as familiar as Franklin Roosevelt—and considered by my father as indispensable as FDR to our welfare and security. I grew up in the Mississippi-Yazoo Delta, hundreds of thousands of acres of unbroken flood plain stretching from Memphis to Vicksburg.
It was protected from the Mississippi River’s annual rising tide by a fragile levee system that had given way in 1927 to a flood that covered the land for five months. It was the South’s South, as the novelist Richard Ford has phrased it, and its white minority held passionately to the creed of white supremacy. Affecting the planter’s mantle, most of its white farmers had but recently wrestled the land from swamp and thick forest and yellow fever. Affluence for whites was rare; abject poverty for the blacks who toiled the land as serfs was endemic. My father was as loyal a son of the South as the South ever produced, save for two qualities. Let me very clear here. Which is where I came in. Portfolio: Photographs | South Writ Large. Letters from My Father These photographs of my father, the late Willie Morris, and the letters he wrote to me are not, by themselves, related directly to one another. They came into being during the same twenty-five-year period, yet they do not necessarily occupy the same space.
They do, however, represent an emotional roadmap of sorts. And when you put them together, they provide a new perspective on our lives and illuminate the complexities and dynamics of father–son relationships. As with most of my father’s letters to me, there is nothing sensational here: there are no surprises, no dark secrets, no hidden family tragedies or secret affairs. In contemporary American society, the art of letter writing has been largely replaced by email and text messaging.
But his letters to me are gentle and kind and offered a love that he might have found difficult to express otherwise. Perhaps by complete coincidence, I began to photograph my father at the same time he began to write me letters. Through the Lens of Eggleston - Photo Journal. Jason Little is a photographer (shooting macros, portraits, candids, and the occasional landscape), part time writer, and full time lover of music. You can see Jason’s photography on his photography blog or on Flickr . By Jason D. Little on in Random Every photographer has his or her own reason — or reasons — for why they engage in this particular art form. For some, it may be a hobby that provides a distraction from the stresses of life; for others, perhaps photography just represents a piece to the puzzle of a diverse visual arts skill set. And because there are so many motivating factors behind why people do photography, there are sure to be nearly as many different ways of how people use photography — whether it’s to maintain a visual record of your family tree or to document a nation’s civil war or to share images of the day’s most mundane occurrences with friends online.

Among many pieces of wisdom associated with photography this maxim is one of the oldest and most loved. It had been cited numerous times in many books and articles.
I always wanted to know the origin of it, but never been able to get past the few clues available in the open sources: it is anonymous, it is translation from Latin and it is from the old coin of one of the medieval German states (Brunswick). The coin (thaler) presumably dated 1589. Here is the example of such a source: It had had been taken from the book "A Concise History of Photography" by Helmut Gernsheim (1986). Recently I polished my google-fu and went to the keyboard to solve the riddle.
It was easy to find the image of the coin: But the text was not there; not in Latin, not in any other language. I continued my digging and finally found the explanation in the old book on the history of glasses: "Die Brille Und Ihre Geschichte" By Dr. "Was Hilft Dem Alten Licht Vnd Brill, Der Sich Selbst Nicht Hilft Vnd Kennen Will" Michigan Fine Art Landscape Prints, Royalty Free Stock Images, Canvas. Basically it's about sharing a photo per day in your daily life. There is no rulebook on what one should photograph - just be sure you have fun at doing it, because it's no competition of any kind and you're going to do it for a very long time if you like to. As a matter of fact I'm on my 619th picture by today (February 14th 2006) without having missed a single one. I started the project June 6th 2004 inspired by DoctorIt and Vanessa Naylon. It's no biggie if you miss a day for a good reason - remember it's for fun and were're not here to prove anything to anyone, except for perhaps proving something to yourself.
Just keep on posting your pictures and don't forget to add your new galleries to the community! I'll reserve myself the right to remove some of the older galleries in case the community gets to cluttered. Currently, I'm not sure on how many galleries we should keep per member, so I just added some of my favorite months in addition to the most recent. Rule summary: P.S. Photo Sharing.
