DIY Projects & DIY Crafts – FP DIY Blog Category

This month, we have been inspired by our March catalog to surround ourselves with flowers and all things bright and cheerful! With that in mind and with spring just around the corner, today’s DIY is for an adorable little garden pail made pretty by decoupaging napkins onto it. Read more » These last couple of months have involved a lot of birthdays and gift-giving. Whenever I give gifts I always like to try and get creative with the packaging to make the whole experience that much more extra special. I try and find old papers from around my home that I can recycle and objects that can add a little bit of prettiness.

if you love dreamcatchers as much as i do, you must check out the work of rachael rice . she’s a very talented artist who makes dream catchers that are beyond anything i’ve ever seen. and that’s just one thing she makes – she is extremely creative and was kind enough to share some of her projects and how she makes them for our blog! once you have the basic steps down for making a dreamcatcher , it becomes much easier to experiment and get a little crazy with them! here, rachael demonstrates how to make small ones using bangles and string – these would be adorable for key chains, bag charms and hanging in your car! once this part is complete, attach feathers or any other embellishments using string! rachael has also been making more conceptual dream catchers using pieces of cardboard or thick paper, vintage doilies and hand-made paper feathers!

A Beautiful Mess: DIY PROJECTS

Beautiful rugs aren't hard to find, but sometimes they're just not exactly what you're looking for. Or maybe the one you really love is just not in the budget. I've been lucky with two vintage kilim rug finds and also have a fun graphic rug from IKEA but still have some bare floor space that I've been wanting to cover. http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/my_weblog/diy/
A couple weeks ago, I found a paint-by-number at an unbeatable price. I can't pass these things up even though I already owned this particular design. I thought that I could maybe use it to make a fun D.I.Y., but my new rule is that all thrifts that I purchase with the intent of restyling need to get done right away. I have way too many half finished projects in my life. http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/08/song-lyric-wall-art-diy-project.html

Matte Young Punk Well, I’ve bought yet another eyeshadow that I’ll probably never use..but this one is glittertastic. It’s MAC Young Punk, a purple Mineralized shadow. It’s basically purple microglitter in a very fine black base. When I wear it, it looks like I got beat up.

Get Yo' Nails Did - StumbleUpon

Okay, so we’re only three weeks in to this whole thing and I’m already showing you a tame look after I totally promised some of you that I’d do a newsprint nail tutorial this week. Newsprint we can do next week, but for right now I wanted/needed a manicure by a professional. As I told you in the first “Get Yo’ Nails Did”, it’s important to include real manicures in your nail routine if you’re not comfortable cutting your cuticles and getting into the real work at home. I am not. I’m willing to shell out $20 bucks to have the dirty work done right, but I’m not going to splurge on nail art at the salon most of the time. http://hellogiggles.com/get-yo-nails-did-3
Snip, twist, wrap, and knot. That’s all that separates you from a new poolside outfit. We know what you're thinking: Why make a bathing suit? Our answer: It costs less than $20!

Add Ruffles to your Bathing Suit DIY

If you've been following my blog for a while you may notice this DIY from last year but since my readership has more than doubled since then and the economy is as such, I thought it was still relevant and I'd share it again just in time for Summer with a few updates. This DIY will work for a one piece or bandeaux top as well as around the top of your bikini bottoms or top/leg sides of your one-piece ...& don't just stick to black, use your outdated colors & patterns and mix n match ...super cute! Notes: You can use a machine or hand stitch the ruffles on ...make sure to stitch along seam of the bathing suit so you can remove the ruffles if you want to at a later date ...don't stitch on top of the gather stitch or you won't be able to create the ruffle & remove that stitch ...trim any area you don't like ...this material will not fray. This is easier than you think! ...Have Fun! { Miracle Bra bikini top from Victoria's Secret }

Tank Top DIY & How to Create a Snakeskin Print with Sharpie Stained Markers

The people from Sharpie so kindly sent me their newest invention, the Sharpie Stained Fabric Marker and asked that I create something with it. I thought instead of drawing a picture of something specific, I would try to create a print using a stencil. Lace came to mind and when I did a test run with some leftover vintage lace from my ballet skirt DIY , I got a bit of a snakeskin print from it and was thrilled.
