The Farmer and the Clown  I was lucky enough to see some illustrations for this book earlier in the year and immediately thought The Farmer and the Clown by Marla Frazee will be the book of 2014.

The Farmer and the Clown

There have been many beautiful children’s picture books published this year, with subject matter and illustration styles so diverse, it seems ridiculous to pick a favourite. And yet, there it is, in exquisite company yes…but at the top. The Farmer and the Clown is uncluttered storytelling; no words, but huge, breathtaking heart. It is a book told entirely in pictures – a visual narrative that is simply unforgettable. The story opens on a prairie landscape of endless, empty horizon. Marla Frazee is a relatively recent addition to my circus tent of brilliant illustrators. And there it is, my favourite book of 2014. Mr.Gumpy's Motor Car , John Burningham - Fiyatı & Satın Al. A few months ago, I was at home perusing a stack of books that I was planning to share with the students in my 2nd/3rd grade classroom. My kindergarten daughter peeked over my shoulder and nonchalantly said, “Mommy, is that a think book?” The question confused me, but I knew I needed to dig a little deeper because I could see her wheels spinning. (3) Pinterest. Popular Character Education Books. Best Children's Books for Teaching Values.

Great character education books (books about values) are a great way to teach kids many important values, like honesty, compassion, gratitude, and more. As teachers and parents will attest, lectures are much less effective than powerful stories and examples that show the merits and consequences of the value or trait. Each of these character/values education books can help launch a meaningful discussion with kids! We think these books work best as subtle discussion starters (rather than direct 'lecturing' on these values). To make the value system stick, kids need to come to the conclusion themselves! So be sure to follow-up a read-aloud with some open ended questions. Creative thinkingbooks on being creative and inventive (artistically and in problem solving);thinking outside the box! A Brief History of Children's Picture Books and the Art of Visual Storytelling. Though pictorial storytelling dates back to the earliest cave wall paintings, the true picturebook harks back to a mere 130 years ago, when artist and illustrator Randolph Caldecott (1846-1886) first began to elevate the image into a storytelling vehicle rather than mere decoration for text. Maurice Sendak, widely regarded as the greatest author of visual literature (though he refuses to identify as a "children's author"), once wrote of Caldecott's "rhythmic syncopation" and its legacy: "Caldecott's work heralds the beginning of the modern picture book.

He devised an ingenious juxtaposition of picture and word, a counter pint that never happened before. Words are left out -- but the picture says it. Pictures are left out -- but the words say it. Even early on, tensions between the creative vision and marketability of picturebooks captured the same friction between artist-storyteller and publisher that continues to plague children's -- if not all -- publishing.

My Heart: An Emotional Intelligence Primer in the Form of an Uncommonly Tender Illustrated Poem About Our Capacity for Love.

“How is your heart?” I recently asked a friend going through a trying period of overwork and romantic tumult, circling the event horizon of burnout while trying to bring a colossal labor of love to life. His answer, beautiful and heartbreaking, came swiftly, unreservedly, the way words leave children’s lips simple, sincere, and poetic, before adulthood has learned to complicate them out of the poetry and the sincerity with considerations of reason and self-consciousness: “My heart is too busy to be a heart,” he replied. How does the human heart — that ancient beast, whose roars and purrs have inspired sonnets and ballads and wars, defied myriad labels too small to hold its pulses, and laid lovers and empires at its altar — unbusy itself from self-consciousness and learn to be a heart?
