Langston Chapel teachers Katie Jasionowski and Melanie Kirby entered their to win while posting pictures of themselves enjoying apples, and were chosen as finalists as votes were cast on social media. The two used cheese and sausage from contest’s co-sponsors Kind Health Snacks, Johnsonville, Roth and Marzetti to jazz up their photos. From Bulloch County Schools: “Apples for Education: Buy an Apple, Help a Student,” sponsored by the United States Apple Association and four apple-pairing food brands, encouraged schools to promote eating healthier with apples and to submit project proposals.

This statement will receive incensed objections; teacher librarians are, after all, talking about changes in what we do and how we do it at conferences and in their own libraries. We talk about some of these changes in my own school library – delivering ebooks, providing transferable skills such as critical literacies to our students, delivering online resources. Well shoot me down if I upset you but I still think we’re not getting it. We can’t make changes to our libraries and continue to hold onto the way we’ve always done it.
