Here’s a brief rundown of some of the (very broad) possibilities for making a living (please fill me in if I’ve overlooked one – I’m sure I have): you work for someone else , but you love your job or feel fulfilled you work for someone else, it’s ok, but you can’t complain you work for someone else and hate it – you want a better job working for someone else this is going to be the last job you work for someone else – it’s time to work for yourself ! you work for several clients (e.g., freelancing), but it feels like basically working for yourself you work for several clients and it’s too much – it doesn’t feel like an improvement you work on projects for yourself that others pay you to do (e.g., some authors, performers, researchers) I admit this list is going to have to be somewhat of a caricature, it seems to me that only the last example comes closest to truly working on your life’s work – but even it isn’t yet necessarily the ideal! For example:Editor's Note: Harvard Business School professor John Quelch writes a blog on marketing issues, called Marketing Know: How , for Harvard Business Online . It is reprinted on HBS Working Knowledge . The signs of an imminent recession are all around us. The spillover from the subprime mortgage crisis is weakening both consumer confidence and the consumer spending—much of it on credit—that has been buoying the U.S. economy. Companies should bear eight factors in mind when making their marketing plans for 2008 and 2009: 1.

During a session of late-night girl talk, Lange's character says, "You know what I wish? That a guy could be honest enough to walk up to me and say, 'I could lay a big line on you, but the simple truth is I find you very interesting, and I'd really like to make love to you.'Imaginez. Vous êtes un homme libre, avec un autre homme libre vous êtes en lutte contre les mysticocapitalistes et ils vous emprisonnent, vous enfermant chacun dans des cellules isolées. Ils commencent alors à vous interroger afin d’établir votre culpabilité. Si aucun de vous deux ne dénonce l’autre, le dossier ne peut être bouclé, chacun écope d’une peine clémente de 3 ans.

Robert King Merton (July 4, 1910 – February 23, 2003) was a distinguished American sociologist . He spent most of his career teaching at Columbia University , where he attained the rank of University Professor. In 1994 Merton won the National Medal of Science for his contributions to the field and for having founded the sociology of science . [ 1 ] [ 2 ] Merton developed notable concepts such as " unintended consequences ", the "reference group", and "role strain" but is perhaps best known for having created the terms " role model " and " self-fulfilling prophecy ". [ 3 ] A central element of modern sociological, political and economic theory, the "self-fulfilling prophecy" is a process whereby a belief or an expectation, correct or incorrect, affects the outcome of a situation or the way a person or a group will behave. [ 4 ] Merton's work on the "role model" first appeared in a study on the socialization of medical students at Columbia.

Un récent article publié dans Nature fait écho à une analyse de la durée de vie moyenne des nouvelles sur Internet, estimée à 36 heures. Stefan Bornholdt, a physicist at the University of Bremen in Germany who has studied the statistics of online behaviour, suggests that news outlets could improve those figures by making story listings reactive, so that the most popular stories get pushed to the top automatically. Ce que les blogues font souvent. D’ailleurs, il serait intéressant d’effectuer une étude comparative avec la durée de vie des nouvelles dans la blogosphère.
