Scrabble Coasters

Scrabble Coasters Is everyone ready for today's Pinterest challenge? I know I'm excited to share my project and can't wait to see what everybody else came up with. Pinterest in general just makes me tinkle in my pants with joy! So let's get to it! Lately I have been obssessed with games like Words With Friends, Wordosaur, Scrabble and any other word games that make me use my noggin.
Paintstick Starburst My friends, if there ever was a bandwagon, this carefree DIYer is jumping right on it. For months, I’ve seen fabulous versions of the sunburst mirror pop up all over the blogosphere. And for weeks now, with every stop in the paint department, I couldn’t help but notice how those paint stir sticks might just make a very cool version of this decorative favorite. I couldn’t figure out how to stack them nicely enough around the center to make it worth my effort, but that little road bump didn’t stop me from snagging more than my fair share of free stir sticks at a time, like 8 or 10, over the course of a month.

Houndstooth is by no means a new textile, however, it has hit the fashion trend radar once again and seems to be popping up in every magazine I open as of late. Most blame Lady Gaga and her outrageous head-to-toe houndstooth ensemble. And she may have brought it to the masses attention but the dress & shoes she was wearing were from the Salvatore Ferragamo Autumn/Winter 2011 collection wherein Houndstooth was one of the main prints seen in fine and exaggerated proportions. Chanel & YSL touched on it as well for 2011 {and it’s a Staple for Gwen Stefani} but Ferragamo sold it this season, in my opinion. I recommend watching the runway show, it’s GORGEOUS. I would wear every single look. Houndstooth Shoes Houndstooth Shoes
Well…another year has come and gone, and I feel as though I kept some of my resolution, kind of kept a few more and plain old broke a few other. But that has it is for many people, as long as you are trying, and changing you are succeeding in my book. Usually I hide little notes to remind me of those goals or little sayings I chant to myself every time I wake up or get in a situation. This year I have a lot of small resolutions like keeping my house, car, and kids tidy (yes, I have messy messy kids). Getting more organized and buy lots of bins so I can have a place for everything (I keep telling myself that there shouldn’t be a “junk drawer” if there was a place for everything). I will take more everyday photos/videos of the boys and everyday life. Shortened Male White Shirt

Using Up That Sweater So I had some leftover sweater material from the pumpkins I made. The sweater did not felt like I thought it would when I washed it because it wasn’t all wool. But it still was really soft so I thought why not a pillow.

I’m getting a little tired of the winter weather and will take just about any opportunity to daydream about the sunny warm days ahead. These Moroccan-inspired lanterns by Ohdeedoh contributor and DIY expert Katie Steuernagle are the perfect antidote to the winter blues; I love the glow of the rich jewel tones and the intricate gold designs. If you have any old sauce jars lying around, this is the perfect way to make good use of them and get yourself psyched for spring— it will be here before we know it! —Kate

We rode bikes around our neighborhood this weekend and stopped at all the garage sales we found along the way. I love doing this because it's like exercise and shopping in one! Plus, my bike basket is perfect for holding whatever treasures I find. On this particular trip I was noticing a lot of old books for sale. My DIY craving kicked in and I knew I had to do some research on the projects I could use old books for. I found a ton of goodies to try!

Tutorials for Recycling Books

Recycle magazines into a garbage can There are so many different things to do with old magazines, like turning them into useful coasters, using them in your scrapbook or journal pages, or making a paper cup when you don't have one available. Another great use for your piled-up magazines that we both know you'll never read again is to turn them into a garbage can. Craftster user Lovething found the magazine garbage can project in this book by Mark Montano, and decided to make one herself. It took her many hours to roll up each piece of paper and make the container, but the result is a gorgeous piece of recycled garbage. To make the bottom, Lovething used the same technique that is used to make a magazine bowl, but left the shape flat.
