~Royal Icing~ Royal icing is the most common icing used by home bakers and professionals as well. It can be used for variety of tasks and that makes it a great medium to work with. It found its way into my kitchen and I have been using it ever since. Royal icing recipe that I use is Antonia 74 icing recipe.

I sing of brooks, of blossoms, birds, and bowers: Of April, May, of June, and July flowers. I sing of Maypoles, Hock-carts, wassails, wakes, Of bridegrooms, brides, and of their bridal cakes. (or cookies!) I am an admitted lover of autumn, but a close second for me is spring. The talented and super creative Hani of Haniela's has put together a virtual cookie party to celebrate spring and you're invited. For my flower, I chose lavender. Even the look of the flower is lovely and serene and I wanted to evoke those feelings with my lavender cookies. Here's the breakdown: After I did a simple royal icing flood base on the cookies I only needed to mix two colors.

For the green I used Wilton's Juniper Green and a touch of yellow to get that soft sagey green for the stems For the purple I used Americolor's Electric Purple and a little Wilton's violet. I love how lavender stems have very fine hairs that lend a slight shimmer, so I brushed a little pearl dust on my cookie stems for a subtle sheen. 1. Pi Day Recipe: Chocolate Stout Pudding Pie Recipe & Review of Gesine Bullock-Prado's Pie It Forward. I find that pie is a personal thing. People are either scared of baking it or embrace it. Some have family recipes they treasure, others rely on cookbooks and online recipes.

If you think about it, one of the reasons pie is so special is because you really have to make it by hand, and in that way it encourages sharing and giving. Which is where we find ourselves today. Pie It Forward by Gesine Bullock-Prado is a pretty, educational, and thorough collection of pie recipes and baking tips. Bullock-Prado owns the Vermont Pastry shop Gesine Confectionary and felt it was time to write a solid, complete pie book using many of the recipes she's become known for in the shop. Now I bake a lot of pies, and I have to admit that I was struck by how much I learned after just a few minutes flipping through Pie It Forward. The crust (and the whole pie) is quite wonderful. The filling is unique and may not be for everyone, although if you like dark chocolate, you really must try it. Make the dough:1. Chocolate-Caramel Cream Pie. My original thinking with these beauties was that they would become the modern day Welsh Love Spoon. The one you'd actually like to receive on Valentine's Day, as opposed to one of those outrageously over-priced and overwhelmingly useless, hideous, hand crafted, wooden goodfornothings.

Those of you not in the same country as I am might not know what a Welsh Love Spoon is, and in this case, Google is your best friend - he's found this for you. My timing is off though; I've been busy! Thus, I didn't make them in time for Valentine's Day, and they became Dessert One of Two at Rowanne's Un-Birthday Party. I confess that, fabulous though my spoons are, they were not actually my own idea; I saw something similar in a Valentine-themed cookbook in Tokyo a week or so ago, and immediately decided to make some at home (as I've said, as Valentine's gifts, but that didn't happen). I'm just mad for this one - it's like a jewelled brooch! (A tutorial - ha!)

Now, hold on to your hats, because here we go. Store. Banana Cake Recipe with Butterscotch and Cream Cheese Frosting. We entered the convention center’s ballroom to find two women sitting on the stage. One in her 30′s-40′s, chef jacket attired with a professional’s serene gaze. The other – a bubbly, plump Southern Grandma with short cropped hair, her enthusiasm barely contained. That woman was Shirley O. Corriher and over the next 45 minutes she would become one of my heroes. It was the 2011 IACP conference in Austin, TX and Diane and I had just given a talk on food photography. At first glance she appeared to be just a cute grandma with a lot of enthusiasm, but the more I listened it became evident to me that Shirley was brilliant. Her knowledge was deep, but then she would also come up with new twists on techniques that were absolutely remarkable.

Needless to say, I’ve since bought her book, Bakewise. Bakewise is filled with the scientific wisdom of a baking education, but sugared and spiced with Shirley’s uninhibited enthusiasm. Wholekitchen. A tiny gingerbread house that perches on the edge of your mug. A quick update! This winter I’ve collaborated with Brit+Co on a DIY kit for my tiny gingerbread houses that includes 3d printed cookie cutters! It’s available now, go have a look. These won’t be available after Christmas of 2014 so grab them now if you’re interested. I made tiny gingerbread houses that are meant to be perched on the edge of a mug of hot chocolate. I had been thinking about those sugar cubes that hook on the rim of a teacup earlier this month, and I was also thinking about 3-D cookies and how they fit together and figured it would be pretty neat to make cookies that hang on the edge of a mug. I made a few versions to figure out how to make one that wasn’t so top heavy that it would flip off the mug, and how small I could get away with and still fit on both large and small cups.

I’ve made a PDF pattern of gingerbread house pieces which you can open or download right here. I used the Gingerbread Snowflake and the Royal Icing recipes from marthastewart.com. Punchfork — The best new recipes from top food sites. Scalloped Hasselback Potatoes. “Scalloped” is an attractive word, isn’t it?

When I hear it I think of several things: first, there’s scallops, as in the seafood—totally delicious. Then there’s the scalloped shape that can live on the edge of a pair of shorts or on the collar of a woman’s blouse—always pretty and dainty. And of course scalloped potatoes also comes to mind, which carries my imagination to a land of crispy potato skins drenched in a sea of cheese and cream. I can think of no better place to exist, actually. So when I came across TK member Shelbi Keith’s recipe for Scalloped Hasselback Potatoes, I knew we were going to become fast friends.

I couldn’t have been more correct. The first players up are: a few Russet potatoes (I’m sure other varieties will work equally as well), Parmigiano-Reggiano and butter. Start by scrubbing your potatoes good and clean. Then, using a sharp knife, make slices across the potato, being sure to stop before you reach its bottom. Cut up your butter. Transfer them to your plate. Food and Cook by trotamundos.

DIY: cupcake in a jar. Going to the other side of the spectrum, from a vegetable garden to loaded with all things bad for you, but tastes so good cupcakes. You won't think I am such a genius anymore once I tell you how these are done. It really is easy and makes for such a visually appealing way to dress up cupcakes, not that cupcakes need to be dressed up as the name itself is cute and enticing! I pretty much use Paula Deen's recipe, but with a few of my own tiny tweeks to the ingredients (see*) and then I pretty much follow the directions in Paula Deen'srecipe to make the batter and frosting, though I change it up a bit (time in the oven) when it comes to baking it. Ingredients: - 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour - 1 1/2 cups sugar - 1 tsp baking soda - 1 tsp salt - *2 1/4 tsp cocoa powder - *1 1/2 cup canola oil - 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature - 2 large eggs, room temperature - 2 tbsp red food coloring - 1 tsp white distilled vinegar - *2 tsp vanilla extract for the cream cheese frosting: - 2 sticks butter, softened 1.

Make This: Ultimate Chocolate Truffle Pie Recipe | Sarah's Cucina Bella. Do you have a sweet tooth? My kids and I do. Seriously. So does Shawn. We could eat cookies and cakes and pies all day long. But, indulging that sweet tooth daily with cakes and pies and cookies and brownies … well, that wouldn’t exactly be good for us, right? So we don’t. Instead, we have sweets once in a while and in moderation. This pie? But seriously, don’t take my word for it. Another fantastic pie? Ultimate Chocolate Truffle Pieserves 8 1 12 oz can fat-free evaporated milk 2 large egg yolks 1 package instant decaf coffee (enough to make an 8 oz cup – I used Starbucks Via) 9 1/2 oz dark chocolate (roughly 70%), broken into pieces 1 tbsp agave nectar 1 pre-made shortbread crust (alternatively, you could use a graham one) homemade whipped cream Add the evaporated milk, egg yolks and instant coffee to a medium saucepan.

Add the chocolate to the bowl of a food processor that’s been fitted with the metal blade. Pour the chocolate mixture into the pie shell. Devour. One more thing!
