Start Quilting 5 - Binding. This is the fastest and easiest way to sew on bindings, and the way I personally prefer, for those very reasons. Patience is not my long suit :o) For a quilt that was to be in a show, or for a special gift, I would go the extra mile, and do mitered binding, other-wise, this is my favorite method! With your quilt all set to bind, line up the side bindings with the edge of the quilt top (I use DBL Fold Bindings...Single Fold is very acceptable for this type of binding), and stitch, using a 1/4" seam, all the way down the side. Repeat with another binding strip on the other side. Now turn these to the back, over the 1/4" of backing and batting you left on the edges, and stitch down by hand, using thread to match the binding and a very neat blind stitch. Cut the excess ends off even with the raw edges of the quilt. How to Quilt: spool quilt block, journal quilting. "Will work for FABRIC! " Greetings Quilter - Happy Quilting!

A Quilt Idea – Journal Quilting Have you done any journal quilting? Journal quilting really takes the craft to an art form. With journal quilting, you let your emotions inspire your project. Just because your journal quilt is inspired by emotion does not mean it cannot be made of a traditional pattern. If you’ve been reminiscing about the stories your grandmother once told of life growing up on the farm, piece a “Corn and Beans” quilt in colors that remind you of her. Maybe even incorporate photos of your grandmother into the quilt. Just like writing in a daily journal, the more you journal quilt, the easier it becomes. Maybe some day you will even feel comfortable enough to design your own quilts with either pieced blocks or appliqué. And however you can record your emotions is fine. Maybe you’ll leave a panel empty to write out your emotions with a water-proof, fine tip pen. Spool Quilt Block Diane Malaznik 14215 Westmore St.

I found many tutorials on the internet, but was disappointed after making pouches following these tutorials to find that they were not fully lined; looks so much nicer when you open your pouch and there are no seams. It took me a long time to figure it out and I thought and thought and thought...then I got it♥ I don't want to keep this knowledge to myself, so here it is.

I'd like to thank Jane at Projects by Jane (the only other tutorial like this that I was able to find on the internet - wish I'd found it sooner). Her photos may help you out too if mine fail to communicate properly. When I first drew these designs, five or six years ago, I didn't have a daughter, much less a lot of Princess paraphenalia hanging around for inspiration.

But this time, as I was sorting through these designs and printing them all out to study their colors in preparation for their re-release by Windham Fabrics, and hanging them up on my studio wall, I had an actual Princess castle, almost three feet tall and just as wide, right behind me the whole time. Then, I remembered that Liesl had made a beautiful little Bubble Dress from one of these prints, also before I had a daughter, and that now, just in time, after hanging in her closet since before she was born, it fits.

My princess-freindly household is also currently consumed with the idea of sleepovers, big girl beds, making friends, and playdates (which we are getting very good at, in a two-almost-three sort of way), and also, unfortunately, in resisting naps and bedtimes with the ardour of a certain royal and her obnoxious pea. It was such a huge leap to decide to have another baby. Back and forth we went, between not wanting to upset the (currently) calm waters of parenting two, to thinking about what it might be like as our children grow into adults and Lachlan's half a heart begins to grow weary. What will our family look like in twenty years? And yet. I find “expecting” to be such an odd way of describing pregnancy. With my second pregnancy, the shit hit the fan at the halfway point. You think you're alone in your sorrow, but then you look around and see other islands close by.

So here I am. All that to say that I don't really know what to “expect” anymore, but not in an exasperated, hopeless way. Pink picket fence. Have you heard about it yet? Stitch Fix? It's the online service I've been waiting for all my life because, well, I hate shopping. I don't have time. And I don't like the mall. Or the lighting in dressing rooms. Or masses of people. Or ALL of the choices. And my taste is all over the place. So when Kristen (of DineandDish) instagrammed about receiving boxes of specially selected clothing and accessories from Stitch Fix, I was curious.

Imagine: A personal shopper that sends you clothes. And of course it's not free. So what was in my first Fix? Item #1: This chambray shirt. Item #2: This darling tunic-y navy blouse. Items #3 + #4 : cobalt statement necklace and teal twist wrap tee. I liked both of these a lot. Item #5: Navy Blue Zipper Detail Dress. Sarah knocked this one out of the park. I'm also very excited to make a queen sized quilt! I never thought I'd be able to start and complete a quilt larger than a lap-size on my own, since quilting a monster quilt is not what I would consider fun.

With this method, not only can you make a monster quilt top, but, you will be able to quilt is as you go and not have to send it out to the long arm quilter. I originally came across this idea in the Patchwork Style book. Before we begin, I want to touch on how the quilt will be assembled since I've had soooooooo many questions about that aspect. The books' directions of sewing the blocks together through both the fabric and batting layers, pressing the seams open, then once all the blocks are together and the quilt sandwich is made, stitching in the ditch around each block, *and then using some wool fibre for ties in the middle and corners of each block. Ok, so all that being said, are you ready? Yay! ~Penny.
