Dollar Store Crafts

Although this blog is dedicated to making stuff with supplies you can buy at the Dollar Store, my readers have shown that they also appreciate projects that use recycled materials in clever ways, too. Since other soda bottle recycling projects have been very well received, I thought you would like this one, too! Of course, you CAN buy a soda at the dollar store if you don't have one of these bottles on hand! Project Estimate: Clear plastic soda bottle (20 oz), on hand or $1Scissors Total cost: FREE Disclosure: this article may contain affiliate links or other forms of sponsored content.

How to Make Clothing Buttons from Shrink Plastic…

Since posting the first time, I’ve had lots of questions about these buttons which will hopefully be answered in this revised post. Equipment Some handy notes: 1. The buttons. Single hole, hole punch (like this one here). 2. 3. Okay.. lets get started! Scissors.paper.wok. Thrifty and Chic. MeiJo's JOY. Thrifty and Chic: PVC Pipe Mirror. Happy Monday!

Thrifty and Chic: PVC Pipe Mirror

Hope you all had a good restful weekend...ours was chilly and rainy and just plain out gross. Welcome spring! So, of course that kept me indoors most of the weekend. Which was good because I was able to get a lot of stuff done! So I guess its a catch 22. One of the projects I was finally able to complete has to do with a somethin' we call PVC pipe. So with all this extra pipe, I decided to put it to some good use. (short disclaimer: I'm not recommending that you do what I am about to say, I think it was a little dangerous, but it worked for me. Okay. You can also spraypaint the pipe whatever color you wish before doing the aforementioned process.

Now that you have all your cut pieces, lay them out into whatever desirable decor piece you would like. It took me about a good hour or two to do this, making sure all the spacing was correct and what not. And, as you will see soon, I changed the configuration of this quite a bit. Okay. Once all was said and done....and dried. Lol. DIY Zebra Painted Rug. My sister, Jessica (sister #3), had her eye on the West Elm Safari Rug for some time.

DIY Zebra Painted Rug

She wanted it for a small nook in her dining room. We went to the store a couple of weeks ago to pick it up, but the size that she needed was only available for delivery. Bringing the cost of the rug to about $130.00. Which I guess ended up being a good thing, because she fell in love with this Capiz Chandelier. She figured her husband would not be thrilled with both purchases being made in one day. We considered keeping my younger sister's old West Elm rug for the space, but the brown was not working with her new grey chandelier. We sent each other about 20 texts that night and the idea of painting a rug came up. This is what happens when you try taking a picture of a rug with a three year old in the house. We used painters tape to block out the small edging the rug had. We used wax paper to trace out the pattern in the original brown zebra rug pictured above. Here it is. What do you think?
