Making Memory Candles {A project from the Inspired Ideas Archives} This is such a fun way to display photographs! The technique uses black and white photocopies and transparent contact paper to transfer images to glass votive candleholders. What happens is that the black ink sticks to the contact paper. It's a lot of fun to do.How to Plant Ideas in Someones Mind
If you've ever been convinced by a salesperson that you truly wanted a product, done something too instinctively, or made choices that seemed entirely out of character, then you've had an idea planted in your mind. Here's how it's done. Note: We've gotten a lot of emails about how to do this in specific situations. Although some of those situations have been legitimate, this post was written to teach you to detect these tactics rather than use them on others. If you want a good way to convince people to do what you want that doesn't involve the dark side of manipulation, read this . Before we get started, it's worth noting that planting an idea in someone's mind without them knowing is a form of manipulation.Free Knitting or Crochet Pattern Tutorial: Coffee Cozy
Every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday mornings, my girlfriends and I gather together at the coffee shop and knit, and talk, and laugh, and cry, and knit some more. Some of us are happy just to watch, while some of us knit row after row of perfectly executed garter stitch, and some of us are just a wee bit obsessed. The magic of our needles and camaraderie brings an ever changing blend of men, women, grandparents and children to the large round table; watching in awe or sharing stories. I have come to appreciate each and every person who has passed through our group, and have come to depend on this profound connection we've created with each other. Today, the tone at the table grew to sheer panic!Make your own paperback wallet!
I wanted to share my tutorial for making wallets out of old paperback books (or any paper media, really.) This basic wallet was not my idea... the original link does not work (but here it is anyway. ) The original design was flawed, and the wallets ripped the first time you opened them. I changed the design, and made them much, much stronger. My own wallet is over 1 1/2 years in use now, and still going strong.DIY: Chalkboard Mug
the red kitchen: The Leather Cuff tutorial
Hello and welcome all you boy-lovers! While I don't have any little boys of my own to play with yet, I do have a husband and brothers and brothers-in-law to make things for. And--truth be told--I think the boys in our lives that are over the age of twelve are the ones who are really the hardest to take care of when it comes to all things handmade. Such was the case for me a few months ago. My husband and I decided early on (July-ish?) that we were going to give handmade gifts to everyone on our Christmas list this past Christmas.Etched Glasses for Father's Day

First, draw a mustache on the top of your mug with a sharpie marker. As you can see mine took a couple times to get right.

(vintage romper, river island feather headband) I’ve been wanting an oversized clutch for a while now, especially since I laid eyes on that Celine clutch shot by Tommy Ton for style.com . Its minimalism is so beautiful.

Almost two years ago, I bookmarked a wonderful tutorial from Design Sponge for a cork lamp. I just loved the idea and wanted to translate it in another way. But for some reason, I kind of forgot about it as time went on, and then this weekend when I was rinsing out some cans to put into the recycling bin, I remembered. I had also just bought some beautiful tulips, and immediately knew exactly what to make. A cork vase to hold notes, photographs, and of course flowers.

Ready for a fun project? This is one of those craft tutorials that you can imagine doing because it’s fun and festive but also practical and timely with warmer days here. The uber creative Livy Kanaley from a new favorite blog of mine, A Field Journal , is visiting us to share a craft tutorial — how to make a festive photo lantern with battery operated tea lights. I love sharing random projects like this from time to time on decor8 especially with so many looking for projects that are affordable and not overly time consuming. This project is creative, easy, and something you can actually use. Imagine these lanterns on your patio or even at a wedding… lovely!
