How to find true friends (and love) in 45 minutes

There's a shorter version in the Ideas Bank section on the current Wired magazine. Thanks to WPP's Stream for making my little experiment possible... Can you make someone become intimately close to you -- even fall in love with you -- in less than an hour? Dr Aron -- known to friends as Art -- runs the Interpersonal Relationships Lab at Stony Brook University on the north shore of Long Island, east of New York City, and he has love on his mind. Back in 1997, Aron and colleagues published a paper in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin on "The Experimental Generation of Interpersonal Closeness".

They arranged volunteers in pairs, and gave them a list of 36 questions that, one by one, they were both asked to answer openly over an hour "in a kind of sharing game". But would the "fast friends" experiment also work with more worldly senior executives and entrepreneurs? Psychological ("personality") Types. Psychological ("personality") Types According to Jung's theory of Psychological Types we are all different in fundamental ways.

Psychological ("personality") Types

One's ability to process different information is limited by their particular type. These types are sixteen. People can be either Extroverts or Introverts, depending on the direction of their activity ; Thinking, Feeling, Sensing, Intuitive, according to their own information pathways; Judging or Perceiving, depending on the method in which they process received information. Memory Enhanced by a Simple Break After Reading

I have a great memory for books I’ve read on trains. I always thought this had something to do with the nature of train travel: the rocking of the carriage, the rhythm of the stops, the continually changing picture window. Perhaps the combination of all these helps induce a focus which is harder to achieve in familiar circumstances. Or perhaps the answer is simpler. Psychologists have found that brief resting periods after learning aids memory. It is thought that this little rest helps consolidate the memory, making it easier to retrieve.

I began to wonder if this suggested why I find it easier to recall books I’ve read on trains. Unlike at home where I read continuously, on a train I tend to stop more frequently to look out of the window or see who is getting on at the next stop. The problem is these findings have only been shown over very short periods. Image credit: Jens Schott Knudsen. How to Read Body Language to Reveal the Underlying Truth in Almost Any Situation. Why you should learn to lucid dream. If you’ve never experienced it then you may find it hard to understand what lucid dreaming is all about.

Why you should learn to lucid dream

In fact you may be thoroughly sceptical and dismiss the whole thing as silly nonsense. But I can tell you from personal experience that lucid dreams are very real and something that many millions of people regularly enjoy. Note: Due to the huge amount of interest that this post has generated I am now seriously considering writing a book on the subject, and I would welcome input from anyone with an interest.

If you have any anecdotes, suggestions, dreams or anything else you’d like to share with me for possible inclusion in the book, please email me. Your contribution can be anonymous and you may change any and all names/characters as you wish. Lucid dreaming is when you experience full consciousness while dreaming. You may also have another question on your mind, along the lines of “What’s the big deal with being conscious while dreaming, anyway?” Experiencing a lucid dream. Psych. Psychology.
