Windmillerdg's ideas. You Rock! {Valentines Cards. WOW, can you believe that January is already almost done and dusted? Time is just whirring past at great speed and I am sure for some it has been a super exciting month with plenty of weddings, proposals and all things lovely! And that brings us to Valentines day! YAY! Now, I am by no means saying that I am a big fan of overly expensive red roses, kitchy love songs and eating myself into a chocolate frenzy. But, let’s face it, it is the one day you can be corny, fun and just a tad lame. ;) So at Seven Swans we decided to indulge you and created 10 Valentines Cards inspired by the lyrics of some love sick musicians. Have fun! Xx Anelle from Seven Swans. South Shore Decorating Blog: paint colors. This is a follow up post to my last post about Benjamin Moore paint colors, called "The Top 100 Benjamin Moore Paint Colors. " (Catchy title, no?)

It has been by far my most popular post ever, and the closest I'll ever come to going viral on Pinterest, so I decided to write another one. I tried very hard to make these all new colors. This will be the last one of these I think, because I am running out of colors to show you :) Like the last one, it is organized by color. I hope you enjoy it! How-to update a Dining room furniture. I FINISHED one of the DIY furniture painting projects that I have been working on the past two weeks! It is the oak hutch in my dining room. I am thrilled how it turned out and also thrilled to have my garage back. I originally was going to paint the hutch a sisal color and the walls white, but that felt too cold to me so I reversed the colors and could not be happier. I also took a bit of inspiration from this photo from the Pottery Barn catalog. Hand me down hutch. I didn’t want to spend money on purchasing bead board for the back of the shelves and didn’t want to just paint them as I wanted to add some dimension and contrast. Love how it looks. My decorating marathon is a “thrifty” one.

The baskets are from IKEA. Before and After Interior. I like the off white of the book pages against the white plates, platter, and pitchers. One project down, three more to go… and then I will unveil the entire room just in time for Thanksgiving – my deadline. How to make a No Sew Window Treatment. Finally after all the hard work I have been doing in my hall bathroom, I have been rewarded – it is all coming together just as I had envisioned.

No snafus or problems. Yes! I love it when that happens – which usually is NEVER – as in DIY decorating land there is always a glitch. I have seen more than my share of them – this room is the exception. I am so excited to be actually showing you the icing on the cake – no more construction photos. Now I get to show you the fun, pretty, and colorful stuff like the Easy No Sew Window Valance I made. It only took me an hour to make. Before I made the green valance you see here from cardboard. After All updated!!! To make the valance I used one Polystyrene Insulation panel that I got at Lowes. Materials needed: 1. I love gift-wrap and I also love anything and everything having to do with typefaces. So it is no surprise to me that I have had my eye on this vintage typographer gift-wrap ever since Emily over at Jones Design Company posted about it as well as many other pretty papers she uses. I wanted to find a way I could use this gift-wrap where I could enjoy the pattern in my daily life instead of only wrapping gifts with it and giving it away. When I started to update my guest room I got an idea on how I could incorporate it into the room. The gift-wrap comes in 20” x 28” sheets that cost $4.00 each.

Before This piece of hand me down furniture looks nice in this photo, but the top and left side have cracks in them. Supplies needed: My color scheme for the room: white, beige, tan, black, and purple. I painted the dresser white first. I didn’t like the drawer pulls, but it was not in my budget to buy new ones, so I had to come up with a way to make them more interesting. Adhering the Gift wrap: 1. What do you think of some rustic harshness in your bathroom? Bare stone walls work just fine with sleek concrete surfaces, creating a space that radiates an organic uniqueness I simply can't say no. Actually, it is the use of both antiquated and modern techniques that makes this style so appealing, and, taking it from photo no 3, adding a vintage piece like the large gilded mirror, a log and a few wicker baskets, or, like photo no 4, a stark, frameless mirror and inox fixtures, you can fine tune the atmosphere from total country chic to contemporary elegance.

So, is bare stone something you'd opt for? Portable Whangapoua Beach Hut. Imaginez, une plage de sable blanc en Nouvelle-Zélande et un petit nid douillé mobile. A few weeks ago, I saw this paint chip calendar on my friend David’s blog Cheltenham Road and knew I had to make one! It combines two things that I love…stylishness and organization. And the fact that it utilizes paint chips? Even better. I mostly followed David’s tutorial with just a few modifications. That’s the beauty of this project…it’s totally customizable. Since I planned for this calendar to hang in my office, I chose paint chips that would coordinate with the room and with the pin board that hangs on the adjacent wall.

Here’s my version. materials needed: poster frame, fabric, hot glue gun, 35 paint chips, paper trimmer, corner rounder, fabric glue, foam brush 1) Purchase a poster frame (mine came from Target…$9.99). 2) Remove the edges from the frame. 3) Cover the cardboard insert with fabric using hot glue to secure it on the back, pulling tightly to keep the fabric smooth. 4) Trim the paint chips with a paper trimmer (I chose to leave the paint color names but cut off the brand). Wood veneer are thin pieces of full woodgrain, which are sold in flexible roles, so you can glue them onto core panels for the look and finish of hardwood grain pattersn without the expense of solid wood. This project comes from the bright minds at Lowe's Creative Ideas, who show you how to shape the veneer around empty paint cans and use an iron to seal it together. As you will see below, there are dozens of different ways to join two pieces of wood together.

Each with their own set of advantages and disadvantages. Box Joint The box joint, also called a finger joint, connects two boards at the corners. Butt Joint The butt joint is the simplest and weakest joint. Dovetail Joint The dovetail is one of the strongest, most beautiful, and most complex joinery techniques that woodworkers employ. Dowel Joint The doweled joint is merely a butt joint that uses wooden dowels to help align and strengthen the bond between two boards.
