Big Think

Since the beginning of recorded time, and probably since long before that, the human body has been highly politicized, particularly in the areas of sexuality and reproduction. With the emergence of biotechnology, genetic modification, and the further refinement of psychopharmacology, we can expect further political polarization around the ethical issues these new options will raise. For example: should we genetically enhance our offspring in accordance with our cultural values, thereby significantly shaping their future in unpredictable ways before they’re even born? In our time, many of the political battles over the body revolve around reproduction, and therefore the rights of women. Abortion and birth control, specifically, are epicenters of controversy in the United States, and the site of a fervent cultural clash between religious ideas about sex and reproduction and democratic ideals of personal liberty. http://bigthink.com/
Last week on Twitter , someone had asked what Web 2.0 tools were the most beneficial to classrooms. For me, there was only one answer: Blogging. What is so great about blogging, you ask? There are numerous educational benefits to blogging, both for students and teachers.

Exploring Ed Tech @ the Bi-Co

http://edtech.blogs.brynmawr.edu/ Our Education Program is exploring new uses of technology in instruction, assignments, and communication. Some efforts include making use of real-time chat rooms, experimenting with Twitter in academic courses, developing a database of digital assignments (e.g., video projects, timeline projects, audio and podcasting projects) that make use of technologies to provide faculty and students with ideas for innovative project formats, and exploring how social media could be used in our courses and program. Additionally, we are exploring ways to use technology with partner sites in K12 schools that are (relatively) nearby and some that are much farther away, such as in Ghana . Efforts have also been made to incorporate more technology-based options into our central student portfolio assignment and to expand our e-portfolio options.
iPad

Here are some classroom ideas for activities using a range of apps that teachers can try with their students. The activities are grouped into broad categories to provide a starting point however many of the apps can be used across a number of learning domains. Sound effects are used extensively in music, films, advertisements etc. It can be very difficult to recognise a sound without having visual cues or knowing the context.
