Stripping away their exteriors, Adrian Cox paints figures composed of pulpy, bulbous masses of flesh that repulse at a first glance.
Though Cox acknowledges his characters’ monstrosity, he describes his true intention as an investigation of empathy. The openly-exposed flesh becomes a metaphor for emotional vulnerability. “…These characters strive to connect with each other and their environment,” he writes in his artist’s statement. “Their acts of singing, loving, whistling, stargazing and wandering suggest attempts to become united with their surroundings through a state of perpetual wonder.”

Definitivamente este é o ensaio o qual dediquei mais tempo à concepção de ideia e conceito. Tudo começou a surgir por meados de agosto/setembro, quando percebi a necessidade de produzir algo que fosse relacionado à mim, e somente à mim. Aproveitando disciplinas na Faculdade de Artes/UnB, desenvolvi ao longo do semestre alguns projetos e trabalhos que serviam de possíveis protótipos, e que fomentavam meu imaginário visual. "Tela - Entre o Glamour e a Crueldade" e "Raízes" foram as duas exposições que escrevi e desenvolvi poéticas que estivessem relacionadas à prática de um "ser" artista.
Para chegar em "Tela", passei por diversos caminhos e diversas experiências que me fizeram crer que eu realmente precisava colocar pra fora o que nós, artistas, guardamos.
