Some of you have commented that you are looking for some small, simple gift ideas. This is definitely simple to make, and a little more fun than the typical rectangular zippered pouch! I can see these as the perfect gift for teenage cousins or nieces or girlfriends or even teacher gifts. Fun, quick, and cute!

It doesn’t take very much fabric so you could even use scraps! UPDATE: I have completely re-written this tutorial with twice as many bright, clear photos and more detailed instructions and it is available as a pattern in my pattern shop. It all started with my decal penny pendant project that uses vintage decals. I had received a lot of emails asking where to find such decals. They aren’t so much as rare, but do take some searching and patience to find. So I went out on the hunt for alternatives to vintage decals and found DecalPaper.com an online company that sells inkjet printable water-slide decal sheets. My wheels haven’t stopped spinning since. I have so many ideas of ways to use decals that can be custom designed, that I’ll be sharing more than one post over the next few weeks on using the material. You can click on any of the free images to download the PDF files for using on paper stock, label stock or, like I did, inkjet decal paper.

Reversible, not reversible, buttons, Velcro, skinny, wide, you name it. For that matter, you can probably work a pattern out yourself. However, just in case your rock lands here, I’m going to share my version with you. Make a gift bow. In gift wrap emergencies when you've got the present but need some wrapping, here's an idea for turning a magazine page into a bow.

There may be better ways to stick this thing together, but I used what I had on hand: staples and adhesive glue dots. Double stick tape or brads should work, too. Cut a magazine page lengthwise into 9 strips, 3/4" wide. Leave 3 of the strips full length. Cut one inch off 3 of the strips. If you're using a magazine that's 10 1/2" tall, you'll end up with: 3 strips, 10 1/2" x 3/4" 3 strips, 9 1/2" x 3/4" 2 strips, 8 1/2" x 3/4" 1 strip, 3 1/2" x 3/4" Twist each strip to form a loop at both ends and staple it in the center. Layer the three longest pieces on top of each other, spacing them evenly and securing each with a glue dot.

I came up with a brilliant idea for a Harry Potter t-shirt and I couldn't resist. "Expecto Patronum! " However, you can make whatever kind of design you want with a freezer paper stencil. It doesn't have to be Harry Potter related. (Although it would be awesome if it was.) I learned about the joys of freezer paper back in my early college days. Basically, freezer paper is backed with a plastic coating that will stick to soft surfaces when ironed, but it peels off cleanly and easily. Jersey knit bracelet. I don't know what it is about this time of year that makes me just want to have my bare feet in the sand, be watching the sun setting into the ocean, and breathing in the warm salty air of the beach...as i get older, more and more i find myself missing that place i used to go to almost every.single.day. as a teen.
