As well as having excellent sustainability credentials, hempcrete is a fun, rewarding material to build with and, once a few important principles are understood, the technique of hempcrete mixing and casting should should not be beyond the reach of any builder or competent DIYer.

Training - UK Hempcrete

However because the materials are by their very nature quite different from conventional building materials, there have been many instances where novice hempcrete builders, through lack of understanding, make simple mistakes (often with the detailing of the material, or the construction technique itself) which can cause unnecesary headaches on a build. At UK Hempcrete we are keen for hempcrete to be used as much as possible, but it is important that builders develop the necessary skills and understanding to use it properly. To help disseminate quality information about the use of hempcrete in construction, we have written The Hempcrete Book and we also provide hempcrete training to suit a range of needs. A Complete Build - the Multipurpose Roundhouse ShelterJuly 8th 4pm - July 19th 11am 2016 A reciprocal frame roundhouse is a beautiful structure and yet is deceptively straightforward to build. This makes it ideal for a self builder as a first building project. On this course we will use local timber to create a large 'shed sized' roundhouse that anyone can then recreate as a multipurpose shelter. For this course you don’t need any experience, but you do need lots of enthusiasm, and a commitment to learning and working in a team.

This course is run by experienced self-builder Nigel Lishman who has worked with both Simon Dale and Ben Law, and has built roundhouses and cruck frame buildings. The course fee includes all tuition and will be fully catered serving delicious, mostly organic & locally sourced vegetarian food. Building with Hemp Lime course. This is a two-day course run at Earthship Brighton in partnership with Brighton Permaculture Trust.
