Over the past few weeks, we’ve dipped our toes into the world of bookbinding. After mastering a five-hole pamphlet stitch and Japanese four-hole binding, it’s time to tackle the final introductory process. This week, we’ll put aside the needle and thread and explore a book constructed without a single stitch. The accordion book is a folded structure; the book block is made by simply folding a sheet of paper back and forth in page-width increments. This project is, perhaps, a bit more involved than those of weeks past, but it allows me to introduce a few additional basic materials found in every book artist’s studio and a handy technique or two.

I hope you’ll enjoy the project! — Pooja Photos and styling by Claire Dalgliesh The full how-to continues after the jump . . . Rainbow Bubble SnakesHousing a Forest. Summer is here and our family is SO excited! The kids are planning and scheming about what we are going to do this summer. Love it! One of the fun activities that they wanted to try was making bubble snakes that are all over. The best part is they are easy to make and use things that I had laying around my house. Perfect! All you need is an empty water bottle from your recycling, duct tape, a sock that is missing its match (which we seem to have an abundance of), dish soap and some food coloring. Start by cutting the bottom of the water bottle off. Pour some dish soap into a shallow container with a little bit of water and gently mix. We decided to add some color to the bubble snakes with food coloring. Annika added a rubber band to hers as well as the tape. Rainbow snakes were definitely a hit in our house! Owls, Foil, Glue, and Shoe Polish. (original artwork by David, grade 5) Art Club, Grades 1-6 This is one of my all-time favorite projects. The technique has been around for years, and I've loved using it several times with my students. This time around, our art is of owls and leaves. We first planned our compositions, paying attention to all of the positive and negative spaces. 1. **I've noticed on Pinterest some people think we used coloring book images. 2. 6. 7.

Once you've filled all of the spaces, rub over the whole thing with black shoe polish, wait a few seconds, and wipe off. A couple of you have commented on the color- the results will be an aged silver metal look, something along the color lines of pewter. Yes. When I was hanging these up, parents, teachers, and kids all stopped to ask about them- I love being able to tell my Art Club artists how much people enjoy their art work! Make it a wonderful day! DIY Paper Rose. Paper roses are one of my favorite paper crafts. I use them on gifts, wear them in my hair and make them to compliment a Papier Couture dress I create for the runway. Since my typical paper rose is made on the fly, this last week I noodled over how to make a template for you that is simple to recreate and beautiful.

I think this is it! I love this rose and am quite giddy about sharing paper rose inspirations for weddings, gifts and decor in the coming weeks. You can make create this rose to match your wedding invitations or even make a paper rose bouquet. Give it a try! ~Lia {for a printable PDF version of these instructions, click here} Pixelated Heart Popup Card. I‘ve been scratching my head trying to come up with a card for my hubby {AKA the non-romantic type}. I finally decided to make this pixely popup heart card!
