I have a terrible, uneducated, sneaking suspicion that the media are confusing the reappearance in old bees of proteins normally found in young bees to the arrival of 'brain rejuvenation' processes. I don't see a distinction, however, between transmitting a disease vector from a person carrying the virus to another host, and the disease being transmissible. It is similar to a tuberculosis patient transmitting the bacterium from one person to the next; they may have no symptoms - no coughing, fatigue, fever, fluid on the lungs, etc. (analagous to a person who carries cancer-causing virus, but having no warts or tumors) to another person: The distinct cause of the disease is the TB bacteria (HPV virus). We make little distinction between being infected by other disease viruses (cold, influenza, HIV) and the condition; why are we still treating HPV and other cancer-causing viruses and the cancer itself? Does a galaxy filled with habitable planets mean humanity is doomed? Scientists use 'molecular sex' to create first genetically evolved semiconductor parts. The Humans With Super Human Vision. An average human, utterly unremarkable in every way, can perceive a million different colors.

The Humans With Super Human Vision

Vermilion, puce, cerulean, periwinkle, chartreuse—we have thousands of words for them, but mere language can never capture our extraordinary range of hues. Our powers of color vision derive from cells in our eyes called cones, three types in all, each triggered by different wavelengths of light. Every moment our eyes are open, those three flavors of cone fire off messages to the brain. The brain then combines the signals to produce the sensation we call color. Studying the Brain Can Help Us Understand Our Unscientific Beliefs. Editors’ Note: Portions of this post appeared in similar form in a December, 2009, piece by Jonah Lehrer for Wired magazine.

We regret the duplication of material. Last week, Gallup announced the results of their latest survey on Americans and evolution. While it is not quite warp-drive technology, young physicist Aisha Mustafa’s system is based on quantum physics and could see mankind boldly go where no man has gone before. The 19-year-old is further proof that young minds produce fresh new ideas. Is Extraterrestrial Life More a Dream Than a Real Possibility? Biomimicry. Biomimicry or biomimetics is the imitation of the models, systems, and elements of nature for the purpose of solving complex human problems.[1] The terms biomimicry and biomimetics come from the Greek words bios, meaning life, and mimesis, meaning to imitate.

Biomimicry

A closely related field is bionics.[2] Over the last 3.6 billion years,[3] nature has gone through a process of trial and error to refine the living organisms, processes, and materials on Earth. The emerging field of biomimetics has given rise to new technologies created from biologically inspired engineering at both the macro scale and nanoscale levels. Biomimetics is not a new idea.

Humans have been looking at nature for answers to both complex and simple problems throughout our existence. Details of the crystal, which is made up of just 300 atoms, are published today in the journal Nature. "Quantum computing is a kind of information science that is based on the notion that if one performs computations in a fundamentally different way than the way your classical desktop computer works," says study co-author University of Sydney's Dr Michael Biercuk.

"There's a huge potential to solve a variety of problems that are very, very hard or near impossible for standard computer. " Earth-Sun Distance. How Far Away is the Sun?

Earth-Sun Distance

Astronomers determined the size and shape of our galaxy and measured distances to other stars using the “parallax method” (and eventually other methods using the star’s light spectrum). Unfortunately, these methods do little to help us find out the exact distance to our very own star, the Sun. Glowing Nebula's Clouds Look Like Giant Human Face in New Photo.
