Spiral waves are fascinating patterns that have been observed in many experiments. Examples of such experiments are the famous Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction and the oxidation of carbon-monoxide on platinum surfaces. Spiral waves have also been observed in numerical simulations of reaction-diffusion systems in planar domains. The pictures and movies below are from numerical simulations that we ran using the program EZ-SPIRAL written by Dwight Barkley (University of Warwick).
