You Can Make Cool Things With Microcontrollers! The projects on this page were all created for total beginners, with no experience, to complete successfully at my workshops, or at home, or anywhere! All you need is a desire, a handful of parts, a soldering iron (with stand and sponge), a wire-cutter, a wire-stripper, solder, and an afternoon. Soldering! Soldering is fun! I taught Andie Nordgren to solder, and she enjoyed it so much she now teaches others! Beat Counter « Sketching with Hardware

As the name implies the device we built resembles the functionality provided by a metronome – so basically it’s a “click-machine”. But what is the difference between a standard metronome and the MMM? Well, imagine you, as a musician, hear a song on the radio and you think “heck, what a nice song, I might wanna try this at home”. Furthermore the MMM comes with four LED-flashlights supporting beat recognition in dark and/or noisy areas – much like most rehearsal rooms are. Finally the MMM also offers three different volume settings: Medium, ideal for your private training sessions; Loud, all you need at your rehearsal and mute, in case you don’t need any sound at all and simply want to have those flashlights as a guide for your band. So, put in one sentence, the multimodal metronome is a combination of a metronome supported by flashlights in combination with a beat counter. How does it work? Basically I made this post in another forum: I have a Dell XPS LS01X. It has 3 audio slots: 1) Audio-out/headphone connector 2) Headphone/digital S/PSIF combo connector 3) Audio-in/microphone connector My 5.1 system requires 3 slots - it has a black, pink and green wire. My Dell manual says for the audio-in slot: "NOTE: You can get up 5.1 channel speakers by using the three audio connectors (1, 2 and 3) or by using the S/PDIF connector (2)". With Realtek Audio Manager (system controls for audio) I can change what the jacks are used for. Workshop / Chrome Experiments. Connecting Two PCs Using a USB-USB Cable

By connecting two PCs with a cable like this, you can transfer files from one PC to another, and even build a small network and share your Internet connection with a second PC. In this tutorial, we will explain you how to connect two PCs using this type of cable. The first thing you should be aware of is that there are several different kinds of USB-USB cables on the market. The one used to connect two PCs is called “bridged” (or “USB networking cable”), because it has a small electronic circuit in the middle allowing the two PCs to talk to each other. There are called A/A USB cables that, in spite of having two standard USB connectors at each end, don’t have a bridge chip and cannot be used to connect two PCs. As for speed, the bridge chip can be USB 1.1 (12 Mbps) or USB 2.0 (480 Mbps).
