The entire time I lived in Seattle, there was something about architecture of the Northwest that defied description but defined much of the amazing work found in the area. This lake house (designed by Tom Kundig but built in Northern Idaho)?embodies some of the best aspects of regional Modernism that spreads out from around Puget Sound. Pop the top, and see what surprises burst from the box. Concrete walls shoot up on three sides, while a giant pivot-opening, garage-style, box-window facade flips open toward the adjacent lake.
We have had our eyes on Casa De La Flora for quite some time now, patiently anticipating the first glimpse of the new resort on the sands of Thailand. Leading the VaSLab Architects design team was co-founders Vasu Virajsilp and Boonlert Deeyuen, who worked closely with Casa De La Flora owner Sompong Dowpiset to give a tropical retreat a contemporary and cutting edge perspective. Each villa is complete with a private pool, a small garden, seaside view, and a 24-hour butler service.

Size: 400 sq. ft. Location: East Village, New York City Architect: Jordan Parnass Digital Architecture Storage, restraint, and efficiency were key in carving this bachelor’s studio in the East Village into a live-work sculpture for a grown-up. Living and working in just under 500 square feet, Michael Pozner, Head of Retail Development for American Apparel (which is based in LA), had been pushing the limits of what his apartment, in its current configuration, would accommodate. He’d purchased the studio back in 1999, before the boom of the last decade, and wasn’t anxious to move.
Contemporary Juranda House, São Paulo Architects Apiacás Arquitetos have designed this cute contemporary home known as Juranda House in São Paulo, Brazil . The home is only 150sqm and built on a plot with dimensions of 6 x 24m. The architects described the project : “ Due to an accentuated slope, the building was distributed over half levels, separated by a three storey void which contains the staircase with access to the floors. This void organises internal areas such as the living room, dining room and kitchen on the ground floor as well as the three bedrooms, two bathrooms, office and a deck on the upper floors.
Israel-based designers, Ando-Studio , were prompted with the design for this industrial loft out of a desire to create an open and eclectic free space, with a lot of attention paid to detail. They sought to create an authentic loft with life, movement, and continuity. Spaces were dressed with plenty of books, photos, and art and they installed large windows, to allow plenty of natural light inside. The materials most striking in the loft design are wood, silver metal, glass, and a lot of leathers which are used for the furnishings.
