Random Picker. The Seven Best Silent Short Films for Language Teaching - Kieran Donaghy. As many short films are artistic, they have limited appeal in the commercial marketplace and are funded from diverse sources. To make them easier to sell worldwide, they often contain little or no dialogue, which makes comprehension much easier. As a result, they offer intensely ‘filmic’ experiences, using images and movement, sequence and duration, sound and music to tell their stories. These silent films are perfect for the language classroom as they can be used with any level – the teacher just needs to adapt the difficulty of the task to match the level of the students.

Here are the seven short films which I have found work best in the language classroom. Your Secret Your Secret is a wonderful short film by Jean-Sebastian Monzani. Life of an astronaut - Jerry Carr. Colonel Jerry Carr was one of the 19 astronauts selected by NASA in April 1966. He served as a member of the astronaut support crews and as CAPCOM for the Apollo 8 and 12 flights and was involved in the development and testing of the lunar roving vehicle which was used on the lunar surface by Apollo flight crews. He has logged more than 8,000 flying hours, 5,365 hours of which are jet time. Carr retired from the United States Marine Corps in September of 1975 and from NASA in June of 1977.The terms trajectory and orbit both refer to the path of a body in space.

Trajectory is commonly used in connection with projectiles and is often associated with paths of limited extent, i. e., paths having clearly identified initial and end points. Dailymotion. What Happens Next 3. Storytelling through Sound Effects. Animal Minds. Photograph by Vincent J. Musi In 1977 Irene Pepperberg, a recent graduate of Harvard University, did something very bold. At a time when animals still were considered automatons, she set out to find what was on another creature’s mind by talking to it. She brought a one-year-old African gray parrot she named Alex into her lab to teach him to reproduce the sounds of the English language.

“I thought if he learned to communicate, I could ask him questions about how he sees the world.” When Pepperberg began her dialogue with Alex, who died last September at the age of 31, many scientists believed animals were incapable of any thought. They were simply machines, robots programmed to react to stimuli but lacking the ability to think or feel.

“That’s why I started my studies with Alex,” Pepperberg said. Thirty years after the Alex studies began, Pepperberg and a changing collection of assistants were still giving him English lessons. Pepperberg bought Alex in a Chicago pet store. “Ssse... won! Search for WebQuests. Latest news: June 17, 2015: This year marks the 20th anniversary of the WebQuest model.
