I took a Home Economics class in the 7th grade. I probably don’t need to tell you how stoked I was about this (especially after nearly flunking Wood Shop the semester before with the saddest “toolbox” ever) although I am fairly certain they failed at whatever household management skills they’d hoped to impress on my 12-year-old self.
It’s Teacher Appreciation Week! In the past some Room Moms have turned it into more of a Parent Extortion Week with requests for gift cards and hardcover books, but this year we’re keeping it simple. My kids will be doing thank you notes and these lovelies: Red Velvet cake in a jar.
Just four simple players: caramel, chocolate, pecans, and sea salt. Yet the the beautiful music these four friends make together – soft with crunchy, salty with sweet, nutty with chocolate with caramel – you’d think you were hearing a symphony, rather than a string quartet. This sweet/salty whole is SO much more than the sum of its parts.
Break out your Wellies and bumbershoot, it’s a drizzly day.
December 6, 2010 § It is certainly December! I drove back to Toronto to be met with a generous dusting of snow (oh, a good half a foot deep), after spending the weekend down in Michigan at my parents’.
These grown-up rice krispie treats are yummy liqueur-infused treats I started making two years ago.
I've got a really good recipe for you today! I've had this recipe for a while and I'm so glad I finally got around to making it.
Every December, I make you a promise in my head that this, this! will be the year that I share a recipe for classic sugar cookies, the kind that you can roll into any shape your heart desires and sprinkle, then ice, glitter and bauble merrily into the New Year and this year was no different.
Next to a dump cake, here's just about the easiest dutch oven dessert you'll ever make.
This is a Dutch Baby. I have never made one of these at home before, but I am a huge fan of them at restaurants. I make crepes often and tried the little pancake/popovers once (disaster, they all stuck) but never a Dutch Baby until this week and it was so exciting and delicious and easy , I am worried.
Last year, Jeff and I were so busy around the holidays that I didn’t even decorate the house. So, this year, I am all over it. Christmas shopping?
You know, there’s a reason they call certain breads “quick breads.” Because they bake quickly? No, not particularly.
Ingredients Crust: 6 tablespoons unsalted butter , melted 1 1/2 cups crushed graham cracker crumbs 2 tablespoons sugar Pinch fine salt
Oh… MY! About an hour ago, two of my Web teammates (names will be withheld to protect the guilty er, innocent) came and begged for chocolate.
I saw these yummy guys in All You magazine quite awhile ago, but the kids and I just got around to giving them a try.
