DIY Solar Bike Trailer: Eco Pioneer

One of my personal favorites was the entry by Eco Pioneer, a DIY solar bike trailer. It's a modern day covered wagon, ready to power your next adventure. The objective of their design was to help further the educational development of the US population through the creation of a working micro-solar system which can be easily transported to and from grassroots festival events. The frame is a repurposed kid-carrier bike trailer, and the power comes from a 25 watt solar panel on top.

The design is meant to be a DIY project, not a production model, although the potential is there to market some version of these to bicycle campers and tourers. I use my bike every day to get around the village of West Dover. I've often thought that it would be really handy to have a bicycle trailer. Over the last two weekends my brother and I built our first prototype version. The trailer works nicely both on the paved highway and off road on trails in the West Dover Barrens. We have nicknamed the trailer the "Tundra Kart".

It is really convenient to be able to carry things like heavy gear, water jugs, folding chairs, or even a model airplane using the bike trailer. So, with a good fire going in the stove in the workshop, I set about to come up with my own version of the garden cart, the Copy Cart.
