Overview. Overview The Tor network is a group of volunteer-operated servers that allows people to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. Tor's users employ this network by connecting through a series of virtual tunnels rather than making a direct connection, thus allowing both organizations and individuals to share information over public networks without compromising their privacy. Along the same line, Tor is an effective censorship circumvention tool, allowing its users to reach otherwise blocked destinations or content. Tor can also be used as a building block for software developers to create new communication tools with built-in privacy features.

Individuals use Tor to keep websites from tracking them and their family members, or to connect to news sites, instant messaging services, or the like when these are blocked by their local Internet providers. Journalists use Tor to communicate more safely with whistleblowers and dissidents. A branch of the U.S. Why we need Tor. Tor Browser Bundle. Web sites want to maximize engagement, but it’s hard to guess what each visitor will want to read or buy. Pixels are cheap, so many sites approach this question by adding widget after widget, hoping that a user will find one they want to click on. This is the shotgun approach to boosting engagement. The problem with it is that user attention is expensive, and each additional widget distracts them from your content, products and ads. The graphic on the right is a wire frame of a real news website that you’ve probably visited. The blue boxes represent the content; you can see that the information density of this layout is pretty low. It’s good to have options but too many choices can confuse users, and reduce conversion. Context and past behavior are the best indicators of what a user might want to do next.

Do you want more people to watch your YouTube videos? Are you looking for an easy way to improve the quality of the content you share on Facebook? All you need is some great content and a cool Facebook technique that I recently discovered. A Quick Overview This technique lets you automatically attach your videos to the updates that appear on Facebook after someone likes content on your website. By leveraging Facebook’s Open Graph and using this technique, I’ve seen phenomenal results! I shared this tactic with a brand operating in the travel industry and they generated more than one million aggregated views of their product videos on YouTube (and significant website traffic) in a matter of weeks.

By integrating this Open Graph tactic, Marmara, a French travel company, generated 93K likes on its website, which in turn generated 13 million impressions of their videos in the Facebook newsfeed! With this feature, each blog article that you write automatically shares a video of your choice. 1. 2. Elliceyam May Ling's photo pheed. SHOCKER: 3% To 7.5% Of Fans See Your Page's Posts.

If you have a business fan page, you want those fans to see your posts, right? Well, the chart above shows that fan page owners are grossly overestimating how many people they’re reaching through posts. (Note: That chart based on pages that together represent more than 400 million fans; it was complied by PageLever, which is in beta and growing its data set. The PageLever charts rock (they’re much cooler than my lame MS Powerpoint table above), and if you want better Facebook Page insights, you should sign up for their beta.

The “approximate % of fans seeing posts daily” and “total daily impressions per fan” columns are daily, so these numbers are affected by pages that are not posting daily.) It’s more of a shocker than you thought, isn’t it? Among Facebook pages with a million likers or more, less than three percent of their fans are seeing their posts daily. I’ve been told that HubSpot recommends a 0.5 percent feedback rate as a goal. Afraid to post daily? Social Media App & Facebook Management Solutions for Hotels | Appnostic. Instagram 3.0 bets on location with Photo Map, adds infinite scrolling. Instagram 1.0 was about sharing photos using creative filters; 2.0 was about speed; Instagram 3.0, launching today on Android and iPhone, plots all your photos on a map of the world, creating an entirely new way to browse someone's photos on the service.

"One of the biggest problems in social media is that you often post things that are very ephemeral," Instagram Founder and CEO Kevin Systrom told The Verge. "Things live for a couple hours and then they float off into the ether. " Instagram 3.0 was designed to be useful for browsing, but also as a tool to better surface old content. Until now, you'd have to thumb through a friend's pictures chronologically, whereas in 3.0, you can browse your own or someone else's photos on a map, setting aside date and time.

"You've been building this archive of beautiful photos and we haven't let you go back and live through them," Systrom says. "We want to make it really clear that you're in control. Images have been a huge part of the web for the past decade, as this type of content have evidently added more value to the overall web usage through enhancing visual experience as well as in helping give more definition to information/web-based content. The great thing about using images for marketing is that it’s one of the most efficient ways to build brand recognition and acquire natural mentions/links to a website, seeing that it can easily stimulate interest to its audience (particularly if the image is really compelling and/or visually appealing), and is very easy to disseminate.

Another advantage of implementing this approach to link building is that it allows your campaign to diversify the types of links being generated to the site, which we all know is good for building a strong link profile. There are many types of images that can be used for web marketing, such as: So how do you make use of these images to promote your business online? In the continued omnipresent integration of Google+ into all of Google's products, the Web giant announced some new features to its U.S. edition of Google News today. In addition to larger images on the main page and real-time news coverage, the tech company is also adding "relevant" Google+ posts to its news pages. Google News product manager Scott Zuccarino wrote in a blog post today: Many news stories inspire vibrant discussions on Google+, and today we're starting to add this content to both the News homepage, and the realtime coverage pages. This way you can see what your circles, journalists covering the story and notables like politicians or others who are the subjects of stories have to say about breaking news, and even contribute to the discussion directly from Google News.

For now, the Google Plus discussions will only show up in the U.S. edition of Google News and for people who are signed into the social network. I have taught children, adolescents and adults for nearly a full generation now in varying capacities, and while each learner is different, there’s one science fact that universally seems to shatter each and every one of them. Extension of the HTTP communications protocol to support TLS encryption Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is an extension of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). It uses encryption for secure communication over a computer network, and is widely used on the Internet.[1][2] In HTTPS, the communication protocol is encrypted using Transport Layer Security (TLS) or, formerly, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

The protocol is therefore also referred to as HTTP over TLS,[3] or HTTP over SSL. The principal motivations for HTTPS are authentication of the accessed website and protection of the privacy and integrity of the exchanged data while it is in transit. Overview[edit] The Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) scheme HTTPS has identical usage syntax to the HTTP scheme. HTTPS creates a secure channel over an insecure network. Web browsers know how to trust HTTPS websites based on certificate authorities that come pre-installed in their software.
