Homemade Heart-Shaped Pop Tarts | Weelicious. I'm one of those people who loves everything about Valentine's Day (you may be saying, "blech" right now, but I do). Well, I'm not particularly fond of how commercial the holiday has become, but I do love all the hugs, kisses, homemade cards and, of course, sweet treats! While you can easily buy your Valentine a bag of sweet tarts with cute sayings printed on them, why not go to the store, buy fresh ingredients and then make something special with your kids instead? This year, Kenya, Chloe and I have decided to make Raspberry Cream Cheese Heart Tarts for daddy (I hope he doesn't read this post before the 14th) to show him just how much we love him.

After all, isn't food the fastest way to a daddy's heart? Putting a spin on Pop Tarts, one of my childhood favorites, I came up with the idea of these homemade Heart Tarts. I wish I had something more eloquent to say about the miniature soft pretzels I made for the two Super Bowl parties we attended on Sunday, but every time I look at them, intelligent words escape me: they’re sooo cute! Are they not the fattest, more adorable little things you have ever seen?! They were so plump, all their holes closed up and while I tried to twist them into the traditional pretzel shape, as if all they really wanted to be when they baked up was a dinner roll. With turkey and mustard, I believe they requested. Ever since I made bretzel rolls (something I just learned are actually called Laugenbrötchen, such a cooler name) in October, I have been looking for excuses to do so again (and not leave them to stale and condensate in a plastic bag this time).

It hasn’t helped that I am suddenly seeing varieties freshly-baked pretzels in all sorts of places, above and beyond the stale street cart fare. Finally, the discs are slightly big for a standard cupcake liner. 1. 2. 3. 4. Chinese Marbled Tea Egg Recipe. My friend Diana, author of Appetite For China recently was vacationing here in Tampa, Florida and I got to meet her!

For Chinese Marbled Tea Eggs, you’ll want to hard boil eggs first, and after they cool off, use a back of a teaspoon to gently crack the eggshell all over. Chinese New Year book for kids. Chocolate Chip Granola Bars | Weelicious. Do you have any idea how much money you spend on granola and/or nutritional bars for your kids? Take a minute and add it up; I would bet it's more than you think. Before you say "they're convenient", trust me, I get it. On those busy mornings when you don't have time for breakfast, there's nothing easier than tossing a bar into your child's lunch box and another one into your purse, but a majority of the brands on the market are not as healthy as their manufacturers would lead you to believe.

Plus, they are made with ingredients I can't even begin to pronounce. About 8 years ago, I got so fed up with what my husband was spending on bars to take to work with him, I devoted myself to figuring out how to make them myself. If you can't bear giving your kids chocolate chips first thing in the morning (my husband always gets tweaked when he sees the kids eating these at 8am), you can easily replace them with naturally sweet dried fruit like cranberries, cherries or raisins.

Aside from my brief, mini melt-down on Thanksgiving, it was a much enjoyed week. Repeat after me… The holidays are stressful. Please tell me you are in total agreement. This year the boy was scheduled to be with his dad for Thanksgiving dinner. So yes, I had a little moment during Thanksgiving (actually a few moments) of not holding it together very well, feeling stressed over what I couldn’t control, and sad for not having exactly the life I had envisioned for myself. I would think the same thing because of the pumpkin color. Well here's where you're going to get a little Mags lesson in "do as I say, not as I did. " You see, I wanted this white chocolate cheesecake to be orange in color (for Halloween,) but I thought I'd add in a bit of semi-sweet chocolate to get a deep, rich orange color instead of a neon orange.

It took an entire tube of neon orange gel food coloring to get this cheesecake even remotely orange, so I'd suggest that if you do indeed make this rich, yet fluffy light cheesecake, you skip the food coloring all together and you'll most likely end up with a lovely light brown filling. Or use all white chocolate and it will be a dreamy cream color. In the end, the taste will remain the same and no one will have to guess if there's pumpkin in that thar cheesecake.
