Ron Paul And The Separation Of Church And State : politics. Ron Paul on Separation of Church and State. I'm not a supporter of Ron Paul. I find him far too much of a social conservative to be worthy of support. And he's a bit crazed with loony conspiracy theories. He likes to pride himself on being a Constitutionalist and praises the Founders for their policies. But how well does he know the Constitution?

The notion of a rigid separation between church and state has no basis in either the text of the Constitution or the writings of our Founding Fathers. Let us put aside for a second his opposition to "rigid separation between church and state" and concentrate, not on Constitutional theory, but on Constitutional facts. Zero! And what about the drafters of the Declaration of Independence? Jefferson had a lot to say about religion. Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law. Jefferson said he was a Christian only in one sense, that he thought the moral teaching of Jesus made sense and in no other way.

The plot, which was being hatched over Facebook, involved dressing up in hooded Ku Klux Klan (KKK) robes, posing as Ron Paul supporters (complete with Ron Paul signs), and “follow[ing] Paul around South Carolina”, making “sure to get photographed by the media.” The thread proposing the idea was started earlier this week by Jere Brower of neighboring Georgia on the wall of the “Stop Ron Paul 2012″ Facebook group.

On Wednesday, January 11th, Brower wrote: He quickly got a second from one Chris Collins of Gainesville, GA (only about an hour’s drive from the South Carolina border), who said: “That is seriously a great idea! Although I am a registered Republican, and ran for Congress in 2010 as a Republican, I am not a Republican. In fact, I am not even sure what that means any more…being a Republican. The Texas congressman's detractors are right to criticize some of his remarks and associations. If only they'd broaden their critique. On the New York Times "Campaign Stops" page, James Kirchick, author of several conversation changing pieces on the Ron Paul newsletters, shifts his attention from their racist and anti-gay content to the candidate himself and his career-long cultivation of support from conspiracy theorists. For example, he's long associated with the John Birch Society, regularly appears on a Texas radio show hosted by Alex Jones, and once responded to the question, "Why won't you come out about the truth about 9/11?

" by replying, "Because I can't handle the controversy, I have the I.M.F., the Federal Reserve to deal with, the I.R.S. to deal with -- no because I just have more, too many things on my plate. " As it happens, these and other conspiracy theories with which Paul is associated are virtually all of the variety for which I haven't even a tiny bit of patience. It's only if they're doing things they shouldn't be, if they're disruptive. But there's ... men and women getting into trouble with each other too. And there's a lot more heterosexuals in the military, so logically they're causing more trouble than gays. So yes, you just have the same rules for everybody and treat them all the same," he said, according to the paper. Paul holds a slim lead over Romney in first post-Christmas Iowa poll - The Hill's Ballot Box.

With the Iowa caucus one week away, Ron Paul is standing his ground in Iowa, according to a Public Policy Poll released Wednesday. Paul leads the field with 24 percent, but Mitt Romney is a close second at 20 percent. The survey of 565 likely Republican caucus-goers was conducted Dec. 26-27, indicating that so far Paul has weathered the intense media focus and attacks from his rivals centered on the controversial newsletters that bear the Texas congressman’s name and some of his foreign policy views that fall outside of the mainstream.

The poll showed a continuing sharp decline in Newt Gingrich’s support, as the former House Speaker finished a distant third at 13 percent. Only a month ago, Gingrich led the field at 27 percent, but his decision not to counter the barrage of attack ads against him in Iowa seems to have sunk him for now. Only 37 percent of Iowans now have a favorable view of Gingrich, while 54 percent say they have an unfavorable view. Rounding out the field are Rep.
