Renaissance Wax. Prelim. The Cleaning, Polishing and Protective Waxing of Brass and Copper - Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) Notes 9/3. Introduction All copper and copper alloy objects, e.g. brass and bronze, on exhibition or in storage in a museum require periodic maintenance and cleaning. Cleaning enhances the appearance of copper objects, and helps to reduce further deterioration by removing sources of corrosion such as grease, dust, metal polish residues, and fingerprints. Polishing, by contrast, is an abrasive operation that removes tarnish and some surface metal.
Repeated polishing results in loss of surface detail. Note that the frequency of both cleaning and polishing can be reduced by applying a protective wax coating. When cleaning a copper object, the first consideration is whether or not it should have a polished appearance. The appropriate appearance for an individual object must be determined by curatorial research and consultation. Work Space A clear work space is required, with a bench or table, good illumination, and suitable ventilation.

Indiana Crawlspace Repair and Waterproofing. These are pictures of a crawlspace cellar recently encapsulated by Indiana Crawlspace Repair. We were able to slide the liner under the well pressure tank and dehumidifier. The drainage and sump pump in the cellar was upgraded to prevent water from standing or flooding like it was before. A drainage grate was installed at the door opening of the cellar to facilitate water to the drainage system installed under the encapsulation liner.
Before and after photos of the corner of the cellar room. The encapsulation system made for a great area of storage space after it was installed. Types of arches | archi...tech's Talk. With reference to the earlier post on arches, this one defines the various types of arches. Arches are constructed in four basic shapes that frame and support doors, windows, porches, and other wall openings: Flat archTriangular archRound archPointed arch Flat arch An arch having a horizontal intrados with voissoirs radiating from a centre below, often built with a slight camber to allow settling is called a flat or jack arch. French arch: A flat arch with voissoirs inclined to the same angle at each side of the center. Triangular arch It is a primitive form of arch consisting of two stones laid diagonally to support each other over an opening. Corbel arch: A false arch formed by corbelling courses from each side of an opening until they meet at a midpoint, where a capstone is laid to complete the work.
Round arch Round arches are generally single centred or four centred arches. Roman Arch: A Roman arch is a strong rounded arch with a semicircular intrados. Pointed Arch References: Like this: Tn31. The big idea right now for solar and batteries is this: put solar panels on your roof, a battery in the backyard (or basement), and become utterly independent from the power grid, using free electricity from the sun. Batteries have long been looked to as a way to store energy solar energy during the day to be used at night, but they have long been too expensive to be used widely. But many companies are looking at 2015 as a very important year for the solar and battery partnership and I’ve heard the word “tipping point” being used repeatedly about this intersection recently. Why all the excitement and why now? First off, traditional lithium-ion batteries — the kind being widely used in cell phones and laptops — are becoming cheaper than ever before. Lithium ion batteries are becoming such a clear low cost platform for energy storage, that other startups beyond Tesla are adopting this idea, too.

German architect André Broessel, of Rawlemon, has looked into his crystal ball and seen the future of renewable energy. In this case it’s a spherical sun-tracking solar energy-generating globe — essentially a giant glass marble on a robotic steel frame. But this marble is no toy. It concentrates both sunlight and moonlight up to 10,000 times — making its solar harvesting capabilities 35 percent more efficient than conventional dual-axis photovoltaic designs. André Broessel was a finalist in the World Technology Network Award 2013 with the globe’s design and afterward produced this latest version, called Betaray, which can concentrate diffuse light such as that from a cloudy day. André Broessel’s latest invention looks like something out of a superhero movie. The bifrost device depicted in Thor, perhaps, or Eric Selvig’s wormhole machine in The Avengers.
In reality, though, it’s a stand-alone solar energy generator. But Broessel’s invention may be more than just aesthetically pleasing. Organicarchitecture - Home.
The Shelter Blog - “Shelter is more than a roof overhead.” The Truth About Solar Energy. There’s a lot of debate these days about the future of solar power. Certain news media outlets who must not be named have brought renewed attention to the issue, likely confusing the public further. I’m here to tell you that solar IS our future. Why? In addition to being an important part of fighting climate change, solar makes financial sense, creates jobs, is abundant, and enjoys widespread popular support. Solar makes financial sense “Wait,” I hear you say, “Isn’t solar just too expensive?” The price of solar has been plummeting, to the tune of 30% in the past two years. Former Energy Secretary Steven Chu agrees -- in fact, he believes solar is close to being as cheap as any other power source: “This is not something that’s going to happen 20-30 years from today.
Solar benefits all utility customers Utilities still aren’t convinced, and a major conflict is brewing with them. However, it’s likely that the utilities are reacting out of fear of losing profits.
