Tutorial showing how to make rope coil vessels and bowls

I found the repetition of the stitches gave me a sense of stillness as I sat in the autumn sun making them. There are various methods of making rope coil bowls and baskets, and the traditional way of stitching is more uniform than I have made mine. In my tutorial the placement of the stitches is random and I love the texture and visual interest that results from this method. Rope coil vessels are very sturdy and you can make them in any size or shape you like. Mine have straight sides (well, handmade, wonky/straight sides!) Click on the link below for the full step by step tutorial. You’ll need: Cotton rope. The cute ‘Craft Keepers’ I have my thread on are my design and are sold at fabric stores. There’s no need to cut the cord – it’s better to leave it on the spool so you aren’t limited by it’s length. Thread the needle with a long length of floss and tie a knot in the end.

I've gotten some questions asking how I made the paper bow on the bottom package in this post.

How to make a paper bow

Here's a quick tutorial. I made a template so you can see the parts. Download the free file you need: The PDF template Files for digital cutting machines:The zipped Silhouette .studio file (double click the .zip file after downloading)The .svg fileThe .dxf file If you print the PDF on colored paper and cut out the pieces, you'll have enough parts to make two bows. Anyhow, whether you wing it or use the template, you'll need three parts for each bow: the band in the middle, the loops, and the tails.

Grab the two outer tabs on the "loops" piece, bend them to the center, and glue them down. Layer the loops piece on top of the tails with a dot of glue, then wrap the band around the center and secure it in the back with a little more glue. Lucky Wishing Stars Tutorial. DIY Roundup - Lace and Doilies

Darling Doilies. Last week the weather felt like Spring and it was a tease.

Darling Doilies

The unfortunate truth is that winter is here to stay a bit longer so I’m forcing myself to enjoy it by picking out some of my most favorite wintry details. Although growing up I associated doilies with Valentine’s Day and grandmothers, I have seen so many beautiful ways in which doilies are used in the wedding and decor world that now it reminds me of delicate lace or snowflakes, a beautiful detail for any wedding! I’m currently working on a garden party bridal shower invitation for a friend and was trying to think of pretty ways to package it. I think some variation of a doily is the way I’m going to go after seeing all these photos! {doily notecards, image by Sean Dagen via Brooklyn Bride} Project doily: star decorations « the happy home.
