The UN-Water Global Analysis and Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking-Water (GLAAS) reports on the capacity of countries to make progress towards the Millennium Development Goals’ water and sanitation targets and on the effectiveness of external support agencies to facilitate this process.
UN-Water GLAAS has been designed in response to the need to reduce the reporting burden and harmonize different reporting mechanisms of UN-family Member States. GLAAS also increases the comprehensiveness and accountability of information on the drinking water and sanitation sectors. The objective of the UN-Water GLAAS report is to monitor the inputs required to extend and sustain water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) systems and services.
The UN-Water GLAAS is produced by the World Health Organization (WHO) on behalf of UN-Water and is published every two years. GLAAS is part of the UN-Water Integrated Monitoring Initiative for SDG 6, reporting on progress towards SDG targets 6.a and 6.b. GEMI Archives. In approaching the 2030 Agenda with a dedicated goal on water and sanitation, it was recognized that the sector at large would require a coherent monitoring framework, with improved data collection and analysis.

World Bank Launches Financial Instrument to Expand Funding for Sustainable Development Goals - BNP Paribas. The World Bank (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, IBRD) has issued bonds that for the first time directly link returns to the performance of companies advancing global development priorities set out in the Sustainable Development Goals, including gender equality, health and sustainable infrastructure.
The equity-index linked bonds raised a total of EUR163 million from institutional investors in France and Italy. The World Bank will use the proceeds to support the financing of projects that advance its goals of eliminating extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity, and that are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs. The return on investment in the bonds is directly linked to the stock performance of companies included in the Solactive Sustainable Development Goals World Index. Por Sergio Campos, Jefe de la División de Agua y Saneamiento y Federico Basañes, Gerente de Conocimiento y Aprendizaje del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo El 2015 marcó un hito en la agenda internacional tras la aprobación de los 17 Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) en las Naciones Unidas. Dichos lineamientos marcan metas específicas que deben alcanzarse en los próximos 15 años. Entre los objetivos establecidos, el agua y el saneamiento para todos es uno de los ejes clave, plasmado en el objetivo 6.
Aunque en la región hemos hecho muy buen camino, aún persisten importantes brechas: hoy todavía quedan 34 millones de personas sin acceso a agua, 106 millones sin saneamiento adecuado y 19 millones aún practican defecación al aire libre. The United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) held from 17 to 20 October 2016 in Quito, Ecuador, successfully concluded with the adoption of the New Urban Agenda.
The Habitat III Conference as a whole was a resounding success: 30,000 people, among them 10,000 international participants from 167 countries were accredited in the Conference. In the span of four days almost 1,000 events took place, including 8 Plenary sessions, 6 High-level Roundtable sessions, 4 Assemblies, 16 Stakeholders Roundtables, 10 Policy Dialogues, 22 Special Sessions, 3 Urban Talks, an Urban Journalism Academy, 59 United Nations events, 157 Exhibition booths, 42 Village projects and over 460 side, networking, training and parallel events were organized by various stakeholders. AQUASTAT - FAO's Information System on Water and Agriculture. Los tres objetivos principales de la FAO son: (i) erradicar el hambre, la inseguridad alimentaria y la malnutrición; (ii) eliminar la pobreza y promover el progreso económico y social para todos y (iii) gestionar y usar de forma sostenible los recursos naturales: tierra, agua, aire, clima y recursos genéticos para el beneficio de generaciones presentes y futuras.
Para apoyar estas metas, el Artículo 1 de la constitución de la FAO establece que la organización tendrá que "recopilar, analizar, interpretar y divulgar información sobre nutrición, alimentación y agricultura". Así AQUASTAT comenzó, con el objetivo de recopilar, analizar y divulgar información sobre recursos hídricos, usos del agua, y la gestión del agua en la agricultura, con especial énfasis en los países de África, Asia, América Latina y el Caribe.

Water and ocean governance. Through the earth’s water cycle, the planet’s freshwater and oceans are inextricably linked. Ninety-seven percent of the earth’s water is in the ocean and the ocean supplies almost all the water that falls on land as rain and snow. Of the small portion that is fresh water; about a third is in groundwater and a mere 0.3 percent in accessible surface waters.
