http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbian_Exchange The Columbian Exchange , also known as the Grand Exchange , was a dramatically widespread exchange of animals, plants, culture, human populations (including slaves ), communicable disease , and ideas between the American and Afro-Eurasian hemispheres following the voyage to the Americas by Christopher Columbus in 1492. [ 1 ] :163 The term was coined in 1972 by Alfred W. Crosby , a historian at the University of Texas at Austin, in his eponymous work of environmental history. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] :27 The contact between the two areas circulated a wide variety of new crops and livestock which supported increases in population in both hemispheres. Explorers returned to Europe with maize , potatoes , and tomatoes , which became very important crops in Europe by the 18th century.

2057 is a Discovery Channel television program hosted by theoretical physicist Michio Kaku . It premiered on January 28, 2007 and attempts to predict what the world will be like in 50 years based on current trends. The show takes the form of a docu-drama with three separate episodes, each having informative stories ingrained into the plot. All three episodes aired on January 28, 2007.
