RD Burman again, and a rather good one even though it's not among his most memorable, or at least not the most immediately accessible. 'Kudrat' [review] has grown on me a lot since I first got hold of it. Contrary to some of Burman's better know soundtracks this doesn't contain anything very elaborate or explosive, just really well-crafted songs. The piano on both parts of 'Sajti Hai Yun Hui Mehfil' and the strings on the first 'Hamen Tumse Pyar Kitna' are sumptuous. Parveen Sultana's singing on the second version of the latter is spellbinding... it's always nice to come across singers I haven't heard before. An album of music to relax to then. Track listing: 1. Smells Like Rock Spirit - "Nobody wins unless everybody wins" Bruce Springsteen. The Lake Band. Les chroniques de Toorsch' Va -- Nobody But You [Tristes Humanistes Mixtape] Oriental Traditional Music from LPs & Cassettes. 70's pop. From MAURICE BAILLY, BERNARD DUBOS, MICHEL EVAIN, three of them have an impressive number of international awards for music. Since their musical studies, they shared a nostalgia for the dance bands of a bygone era, which were in themselves an attraction. They also regretted the disgrace of an instrument which could afford to smile with a certain condescension harmonica. By the merest chance, they also had all three the same "violin" by Ingres: electronics. Then began the period of research. Tirelessly, they devoted all their energy resources (financial, relational, Etc.. ...), To transform their harmonicas to improve them to create new instruments for new sounds.

It remained to conquer the public. And we come to a passion shared by these three boys: the Western. Follow it until today, special "ZITHER GOLD" by the French Association of Recreational music and Picturesque. Enjoy!!! Spookcityusa. Ladybird2. Maggie Said3. Texas4. Go Down Moses5. Seven Deadly Sins6. Were she more prolific, Natalie Merchant would probably be regarded in the first tier of American singer-songwriters, alongside such poetic mavericks as Tom Waits and Randy Newman. She rose to prominence with the folk-inflected ’80s rock of 10,000 Maniacs but her solo career has offered something deeper and richer. Maggie Said is a tender account of an elderly woman’s hardened nuggets of wisdom, Go Down Moses summons a gospel vocal shadow to emphasise burning anger at the tragedy of New Orleans, while Giving Up Everything is quite extraordinary; an orchestral poem of spiritual surrender that offers up a gorgeously bleak depiction of “the whole magnificent emptiness”

Marimba rhythms from Colombia Pacifico. Marimba traveled from Africa (balafon) to Central America and the Caribbean several centuries ago. This percussive and melodic instrument had time to spread and can be found along the Pacific shore from Mexico to Ecuador, where it became an integral part of local folklore (and even national pride in Guatemala). I had opportunity discover how marimba is played in Central America, but influence of african rhythms is not as significative as in Colombia. In Chocó region, the main folkloric style is the currulao (dance and rhythm), where marimba transmits a unique deep swing. So just a post to share some rough recordings, which will probably sound familiar to you as these rhythms are still source of influence in some modern productions today (and still the base of actual folkloric music from the Pacific area). John Mayall - The Blues Alone (1967) Unplugged ou comment obtenir des bruits magiques. Positive Vibraphone n°2 Pffffffffuit.

01. 01. Let’s start the week off right with another Dreams in Audio mix, and one that I’m especially excited about.

I continue to focus my attention on African music, and sifting through the records I’ve accumulated over the months I’ve come across a lot of great instrumental tracks. There’s something very pure about instrumentals, not that I don’t like vocals, but it’s another layer that tends to mask the craftsmanship that goes into playing great music. Hypnotic rhythms, punchy horns, soulful keys and psychedelic guitars; the sum is always overflowing with excitement, and that’s probably what I love most about African music.

As the popularity of African music continues to rise, there are more and more quality mixes being thrown out there. Some of my favorites are the ones Superfly Records has up on Paris DJs and of course, Frank over at Voodoo Funk continues to kill it with his selection of mixes.

Sabir - Fones [2004] SABIR gives us the image of the two furthest pillars in the Mediterranean sea on the one part we have Greece, cradle of the Western civilisation, and on the other shore the Iberian land. The three members of the Greek-Spanish group SABIR include into their repertoire traditional pieces from Mediterranean countries, as well as others which are original compositions but still strongly influenced by the traditional music of the Balkans, Persia, Greece, Flamenco or Western Medieval music.

Ancient and oriental modes are merged with asymmetric rhythms and improvisations performed with instruments such as the Indian tabla, the hurdy-gurdy (mediaeval bowed string instrument), flamenco guitar, the santoor (Persian psaltery), saz (Turkish lute) or the zarb (Persian percussion instrument). Enjoy!
