I crafted a bunch using local paper during my stay in Japan, and I actually taught a group of Japanese university students to make them. I ended up teaching quite a few origami models while I was there, but this one was one of the most popular. The variations are infinite, once you understand the underlying concepts, so it's a good project to have under your belt if you like paper crafting. I use my ningyo (doll/s: literally "person shape") for art, but they can also be used for crafts like cards and bookmarks. They are just so cute! First, a note on terminology. Kimono (literally "worn thing", written 着物) are an ancient form of Japanese clothes. There is a lot of history in this simple garment, and there are a lot of rules/guidelines. Another rule: kimono lapels need to cross left over right. OK. You will need: Paper. Cut the cardstock into a neck and (at least kind of circular) head, as you can see in the picture below.

STEP TWO Measure and draw the line on the cereal box that you'll be cutting. On the front of the box, measure about 5 1/2" down from the top and make a mark along one side, then the other. Connect those two marks using a ruler so you have a straight line. Flip the box over, and draw the marks about 4 1/2" from the top (or 1" less than what you measured on the front), and draw another line. I created them using small water balloons and tissue paper then I filled them with candy and toys and sealed them shut. The egg can hold a surprising amount of candy and the tissue paper seems delicate making for a delightfully heavy and yet fragile object, much like real egg.
