After spending the better half of an hour explaining Steampunk to a much older coworker, I realized I have never shared with this community the various creations this genre has inspired me to create. And I don't even have to explain what Steampunk is to you all! The winter months in New England are dark and cold, and thus I spent most of my time huddled in my cramped condo, crafting away.

Случайно наткнулся на конкурс, решил попробовать — может чего и получится… С очками проблем не было, в инструментальном ящике валялись очки, издавна пользуемые мною как защитные, хотя очки скорее лыжные. Вот только сразу и резко встала проблема с материалами — ни латуни, ни меди, ни бронзы, ни прочего цветмета (более-менее приемлемого) найти не удалось. Решил использовать модельный пластик — легче обработка, но гораздо затратнее — а для придания вида — использовал акриловые краски (в ту-же колею — затрат много).

The Oiling Festival is a steampunk answer to spring cleaning, when we halt the factories to clean out the grit and grime of the previous year and perform our annual maintenance. All good citizens and visiting steamlanders are encouraged to roll up their sleeves, show their national pride, and participate! The original Oiling Festival was held in 2009 to add needed items to the city inventory and invite the greater steamlands to experience the Babbage way of life for a week.

I saw this artwork by photographer Amanda Weil , in House Beautiful and I thought the idea of a transparent or translucent image printed on glass was intriguing. Old daguerreotypes were printed on glass, so the idea could be adapted for some very steampunk images. Weil makes furniture and screens as well as wall art, but for the DIY photographer, I'd look into Fracture .

The ability for a person to visit such a location easily from their own domicile plays a circumstance in the virtual experience. Second Life has been, to my knowledge, on the forefront of virtual world Steampunk locales, with such dedicated Steampunk destinations as New Babbage, Caledon, and Steeltopia, among many other locales. As competition in the Virtual world expands, new Steampunk outposts are designed and populated, the range of experiences most certainly expands.
