Unfolding with Compound Transforms. 2013 update: this is probably a better way to go.

Path Mapper Help

The First installment of this is showing the Path Mapper imitating some already existing components. Flatten, Graft, Simplify and Flip Matrix. There is also an additional example showing Integer Divide to which there is no existing component. For those uninitiated in the dark arts of pathmapper the component can be found on the Sets Tab> Tree Section with the icon of a red cube. Section 8: The Garden of the Forking Path of the Grasshopper Primer 2nd Edition is dedicated to the Tree Structure implemented in GH v0.6. UPDATED to correct an error in the Flip Matrix demonstration path_count should be item_count. Updated: 2011-04-20 Replace Branches Not sure if it's right to include this here as its actually encouraging you not to use the Path Mapper, but sometimes there are benefits to being able to keep the definition free from restrictions like the Path Mapper.

The newest release of Grasshopper enables the use of Compound Transformations, which makes it possible to quite efficiently unfold strips of planar surfaces. In the past I have had to use pepakura or other similar utilities to perform the unfolding outside of Rhino, or alternately a slow faux-recursive method where I essentially unfold one segment of the polysurface at a time. **SOFTlab. We are working on an installation called CHROMAtex that is set to open at the Bridge Gallery on August 26th.

The piece is comprised of over 4400 separate colorful panels. It is being made possible by all of our kind and generous friends who have donated to our Kickstarter page… Follow along, watch for updates and donate if you feel like it! Research » panelling. Posts Tagged ‘Rhinoscript’ This simple rhinoscript, developed to randomize sets of objects for material application in rendering, allows the user to select a set of objects and place them into a user specified number of groups.

Part of a library of environmental effect graphic generators this Rhino Script produces a series of lines which fall like rain upon Rhino’s cplane. If a droplet hits there is a splash. The user can input the number clusters where the rain will fall from, the relative radius of the cluster, the percentage of the way that the rain can fall short as well as a few other conditions. The rain is colored with a gradient according to distance along the V domain of the surface to allow for the production of depth. In using laser cut files directly out of Rhino, I consistently found the need for a command similar to “overkill” in Autocad for Rhino. Ever wanted to use the Illustrator blend tool in Rhino, but just too lazy to do all the leg work to simulate it.

Grasshopper is an exciting and evolving modeling platform - the following examples attempt to develop a range of geometric examples to explore its form-making potentials. Andrew Payne, a GSAPP alum, has created a comprehensive primer on Grasshopper that can be found here. You should have this handy for reference. Helpful Modules.
