Lancement de Nutri’zaza, l’entreprise sociale pour lutter contre la malnutrition à Madagascar. Press release Antananarivo May 29, 2013. GRET and the four other shareholders (Taf, I&P, Sidi and Apem), jointly held the official launch of the social enterprise Nutri’zaza today in Antananarivo. While 50% of Malagasy children suffer from chronic malnutrition (according to the latest demographic and health survey in Madagascar IV in 2008-2009), creating Nutri’zaza has helped perpetuate GRET’s activities and commitments started since 2002 to fight against child malnutrition in Madagascar (see Nutrimad Project). With FIND support, GRET has developed an innovative model of governance to ensure the success of the social company in the long term.

Through the Nutrimad project, Gret has been developing since 2002 a complementary food , known as the Koba Aina, suitable to the needs of children aged 6 to 24 months. De Nutrimad à Nutri'zaza : le passage d'une logique associative à une logique entrepreneuriale A travers son programme Nutrimad, le Gret, en partenariat avec l'Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, a mis en place à Madagascar des centres de conseils d’éducation nutritionnelle et de fourniture d’aliments adaptés pour les bébés – les hotelin-jazakely – dans lesquels est distribuée la Koba Aina (complément alimentaire fabriqué localement par l’entreprise TAF) à un prix abordable pour les couches défavorisées. Depuis sa création, ce projet a été financé par des subventions récurrentes, notamment de l’Union Européenne, de la coopération française et de l’Unicef. For 14 years, GRET has been fighting early childhood malnutrition in Madagascar by educating mothers and distributing infant flours through the hotelin-jazakely restaurants for babies. The cause: the poor quality of the food they receive, notably in disadvantaged households (inadequate breastfeeding practices, complementary foods that are nutritionally very lacking). In 1998, GRET, IRD and the University of Antananarivo came together in the framework of the Nutrimad project to design effective methods to fight malnutrition in Madagascar.
