I get a lot of requests for newborn sleep advice, so I thought I would write this down and keep it on here before I move on to the next phase and forget! Here are some suggestions I have been successful using for getting my babies to sleep through the night- it is somewhat based on Baby Wise by Gary Ezzo and Robert Bucknam. I have had all three girls sleep 8 hours through the night at 8 weeks (actually the last two did it at 6 weeks) and the 12 hours through the night at 12-13 weeks. I am blessed with good babies, but I also put in effort from the start to establish a routine for them that encourages them to sleep through the night. I have said it before on here, it doesn't matter what plan you use, but I believe you will be a lot more relaxed and your baby will be a lot happier if you have a plan . It is very rare for my babies to cry- having a routine gives them- and us- security to know what is coming next.

http://www.bluestem.ca/willow-article1.htm In the fifth century B.C., the Greek physician, Hippocrates, wrote that chewing bark of a willow tree could relieve pain and fever. (No wonder squirrels don’t get headaches.) In 1829, the effective ingredient, salicin, was successfully isolated from willow bark. Toward the end of the 19th century, The Bayer Company in Germany trademarked a stable form of acetylsalicylic acid, calling it “aspirin,” the “a” from acetyl, “spir” from Spiraea (the salicin they used came from meadowsweet, Spiraea ulmaria, subsequently renamed Filpendula ulmaria), and “in,” a common ending in drug nomenclature. In the 20th century, over one trillion aspirin, the first medicine created by techniques of modern chemistry, were consumed globally to regulate blood vessel elasticity, reduce fevers and aches, prevent cardiovascular ailments, affect blood clotting, or ease inflammation.

How to Sew (using a sewing machine)

http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Sew-using-a-sewing-machine/ If you already have a machine, it's imperative to make sure it's been recently serviced. Doing this will ensure your mechanics (such as the Bobbin Tension and Feed Dog - the mechanism that moves the fabric when sewing) are in proper working order and any abnormality in sewing will be "pilot error", which can be corrected through practice. If you haven't been gifted a machine and are looking to purchase your first machine, here are some hints to help you choose the right one. a. Start by finding a reputable sewing machine repair shop.

Revamping the File Crate System (By Sun and Candlelight)

Well, it's the middle of June which means it's time for me to revamp my file crate for a new year - which in turn means it's time for me to write another file crate post! :) Lol, I fear I'm saying the same thing over and over in these posts - albeit in subtly different ways - but honestly I'm hoping that each time I explain the system, I'll do so a little better than before. In a nutshell, my "system" is a variation on the tickler file - it addresses all areas of my life: personal, family, household and homeschooling matters.

Survival Kit Ideas: A week by week approach

Need survival kit ideas? I have many people ask me for survival kit ideas, a bug out bag list, or 72 hr kit suggestions. I’ve spent some time trying to decide the best way to address these questions. Not only should you be able to survive in your own home for 72 hours, you should be able to survive on the go for 72 hrs in case of an evacuation or the destruction of your home. Building a survival kit that will allow you to live completely on your own for 3 full days is no simple task and can be quite overwhelming.
Welcome! Welcome to week #1 in the “ Survival Kit Ideas: A week by week approach ” series. This series is all about making it simple and do-able (and a bit fun!) to get a survival kit (aka 72 hr kit, bug out bag etc) put together for you and your family: something that will help you care for yourself without the aid of others for at least 3 days!
