Toxoplasmosis Window Installation at @random_studio. Created by Mike Pelletier and Geoffrey Lillemon at Random Studio, Toxoplasmosis Window Installation was created to introduce an interesting experience for the people that pass by the studio on a daily basis. The team came up with an idea for a psychedelic cat puppet show which took place on the studio’s large store-front style street level windows, located on a scenic street along the Amstel river in Amsterdam. The main graphic inspiration was Lotte Reiniger’s 1926’s film “The Adventures of Prince Achmed”. They wanted to create a physical, kinetic sculpture inspired by the strong graphic silhouettes found in her films. As a volunteer at Fablab Amsterdam Mike had access to many great tools and equipment, most importantly a laser cutter.

They used 3mm plywood, which was lightweight, easy to laser cut, and still strong enough to make very detailed silhouettes. One of the techniques that they used was a modified version of Theo Jansen’s famous Strandbeest walker mechanism. The Lost Principles of Design. In the instant age that design has evolved into recently many of us often stray away from the basics. If you had a professor in college who taught you the fundamentals of design these may be engrained into your head. For the self-taught, you may have a book on your desk with these very principles. However, the more and more people that flood the internet for design content need to learn the basics before trying to make a stellar gradient in Photoshop. While this is cool and amazing right now, there will come a point where this style is strayed away from and a new style is made.

In history, this lesson has repeated itself with movements like the Bauhaus and Swiss Modernism and will soon come label our current trends as part of history. Photographer Laurent Seroussi has created a body of work entitled Insectes. This example of photographism is very convincing; bringing us a stunning morphology of creepy insects and beautiful women. The model’s hands become sinister pinchers, claws, and other appendages as the beetles, scarabs and Phasmids shift in scale making these larger than life creatures even more intimidating to view. Seroussi has a very successful advertising career that encompasses large range of clients from high-fashion to GreenPeace.

Men Photographed in Stereotypical Pin-Up Poses. “Men-ups!” Is a humorous project by photographer Rion Sabean featuring men doing pin-up-style poses. It’s interesting how much more absurd some poses instantly look when they’re being done by men. There are a couple more photos that can be seen in this Flickr set. Men-ups! James Mollison traveled around the globe and took some incredibly eye-opening photos of children's bedrooms. He then compiled them into a book, titled Where Children Sleep. Each pair of photographs is accompanied by an extended caption that tells the child's story. The differences between each sleeping space is striking. Mollison was born in Kenya in 1973 and grew up in England. After studying art and design at Oxford Brookes, and later film and photography at Newport School of Art and Design, he moved to Italy to work at Benetton's creative lab, Fabrica.

"The project became a vehicle to think about poverty and wealth, about the relationship of children to their possessions, and the power of children – or lack of it – to make decisions about their lives," says Mollison. Lamine (above), 12, lives in Senegal. Tzvika, nine, lives in an apartment block in Beitar Illit, an Israeli settlement in the West Bank. Indira, seven, lives with her parents, brother, and sister near Kathmandu in Nepal. Alyssa Monks. Artist Alyssa Monks always painted women. She started with the self-portraits and then took a detour to paint family members. Her bathing beauties evolve directly from photographs while she intentionally adds a lot of invention to them in her paintings. It seems like water is the overall theme to them and Alyssa says that the water thing kind of found her, and she evolved into it. She has a memory of painting when she was 14 or 15 years old and found an image of water, but it was too hard to paint. So, it was a personal milestone to paint water.

In this post we will showcase the whole cast of the Harry Potter universe as Disney-fied versions of themselves. DeviantArtist Makani is behind these character portraits and, oh my goodness, all her work is so great. We have seen Harry Potter as an anime, but what about as a Disney movie?

Makani did an excellent job translating. These look phenomenal. Somewhere down the road, if they ever feel the need to re-boot this already perfect film franchise, I hope they do it animated. This interpretation of the former in the style of the latter makes my heart so warm that it’s bubbling. But here, just an idea of what Harry Potter would look like as a Disney movie. Adonna Khare and her Pencil. The hand. The hands are a notorious source of frustration.

This section won't concentrate on the muscle structure, since the hand is very complex in this regard, and knowing this won't help much in drawing them. Instead, we'll look at proportions, range of motion, and possible simplifications. Structure and proportions Figure 2.20. Bone structure and proportions of the hand There is a very easy and surprisingly accurate way to remember the proportions of an adult's hand. Start with a line from the wrist to the tip of the middle finger. The palm of the hand houses the metacarpal bones. The palm of the hand can be simplified to a box. Figure 2.21. Notice that the box does not line up with the contour of the fingers. The two black arrows in the previous figure show how the little finger can move up and down. Figure 2.22. Take a look at some examples of how to use this model: Figure 2.23. The first one is a relaxed pose. This is certainly not the only way to draw a hand. Japanese artist Riusuke Fukahori paints three-dimensional goldfish using a complex process of poured resin. The fish are painted meticulously, layer by layer, the sandwiched slices revealing slightly more about each creature, similar to the function of a 3D printer. I really enjoy the rich depth of the pieces and the optical illusion aspect, it’s such an odd process that results in something that’s both a painting and sculptural.
