The Cure are an English rock band formed in Crawley , West Sussex in 1976. The band has experienced several line-up changes, with frontman, vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter Robert Smith being the only constant member. The Cure first began releasing music in the late 1970s with its debut album Three Imaginary Boys (1979); this, along with several early singles, placed the band as part of the post-punk and new wave movements that had sprung up in the wake of the punk rock revolution in the United Kingdom.

Known for their ethereal sound , frontman Jónsi Birgisson's falsetto vocals, and the use of bowed guitar , [ 2 ] the band's music is also noticeable for its incorporation of classical and minimalist aesthetic elements.

[ 2 ] Three of Björk's 1990s singles charted in the UK Top 10 (" It's Oh So Quiet " reached number 4, " Army of Me " number 10, and " Hyperballad " number 8). [ 3 ] Her record label, One Little Indian , reported that by 2003 she had sold more than 15 million albums worldwide. [ 4 ] She has won four BRIT Awards , four MTV Video Music Awards , one MOJO Award , three UK Music Video Awards , and, in 2010, the Polar Music Prize from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in recognition of her "deeply personal music and lyrics, her precise arrangements and her unique voice." [ 5 ]
The White Stripes was an American rock duo, formed in 1997 in Detroit , Michigan . The group consisted of drummer Meg White (drums and occasional vocals) and songwriter Jack White (vocals, guitar, and keyboards). Meg and Jack White were previously married to each other, but are now divorced. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] After releasing several singles and three albums within the Detroit music scene , the White Stripes rose to prominence in 2002, as part of the garage rock revival scene.

Eric Patrick Clapton , CBE , (born 30 March 1945) is an English guitarist and singer-songwriter . He is the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame : once as a solo artist, and separately as a member of The Yardbirds and Cream . Clapton has been referred to as one of the most important and influential guitarists of all time. [ 1 ] Clapton ranked second in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the " 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time " [ 2 ] and fourth in Gibson's Top 50 Guitarists of All Time. [ 3 ] In the mid-1960s, Clapton departed from the Yardbirds to play blues with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers . In his one-year stay with Mayall, Clapton gained the nickname "Slowhand".

With albums Led Zeppelin , Led Zeppelin II , Led Zeppelin III , Led Zeppelin IV , Houses of the Holy , and Physical Graffiti , the band achieved significant commerical impact.
Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire , formed in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments), Colin Greenwood (bass), Phil Selway (drums, percussion) and Ed O'Brien (guitar, backing vocals). Radiohead released their debut single " Creep " in 1992.

U2's early sound was rooted in post-punk but eventually grew to incorporate influences from many genres of popular music . Throughout the group's musical pursuits, they have maintained a sound built on melodic instrumentals, highlighted by The Edge's timbrally varied guitar sounds and Bono's expressive vocals.
Nirvana was an American rock band that was formed by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl , who joined the band in 1990. In the late 1980s Nirvana established itself as part of the Seattle grunge scene, releasing its first album Bleach for the independent record label Sub Pop in 1989.

The Pixies are an American alternative rock band formed in Boston , Massachusetts in 1986. The group consists of Black Francis (vocals, rhythm guitar), Joey Santiago (lead guitar), Kim Deal (bass, vocals), and David Lovering (drums). The Pixies achieved relatively modest commercial success in their home country, but were significantly more successful in the United Kingdom and mainland Europe. Since its inception, the band's line-up has included Eddie Vedder (vocals), Stone Gossard (guitar), Jeff Ament (bass), and Mike McCready (guitar). The band's current drummer is Matt Cameron , also of Soundgarden , who has been with the band since 1998. Formed after the demise of Gossard and Ament's previous band, Mother Love Bone , Pearl Jam broke into the mainstream with its debut album, Ten . One of the key bands of the grunge movement in the early 1990s, Pearl Jam was criticized early on as being a corporate cash-in on the alternative rock explosion. However, over the course of the band's career, its members became noted for their refusal to adhere to traditional music industry practices, including refusing to make music videos and engaging in a much-publicized boycott of Ticketmaster .

Creedence Clearwater Revival (sometimes shortened to Creedence or CCR ) was an American rock band that gained popularity in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The band consisted of lead vocalist, lead guitarist, and primary songwriter John Fogerty , his brother and rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty , bassist Stu Cook , and drummer Doug Clifford . Their musical style encompassed the roots rock and swamp rock genres. Despite their San Francisco Bay Area origins, they portrayed themselves as Southern rock stylists, singing about bayous , the Mississippi River , catfish, and other popular elements of Southern iconography.
